In arithmetic, the traditional system measures the set of length, weight, capacity, and temperature. It is based on the English measuring system. An inch is outlined as the unit of measurement. It is portrayed using the symbol,” or it is often denoted as ‘in.’
The inch used in the place of inches is a unit of length in the imperial and United States system of customary measurement. It is said to be equal to 1⁄36 yard or 1⁄12 of 1 foot. It is derived from the Roman word "twelfth." It is also used to translate similar units to other measurement systems.
One inch = 1”
One half of an inch = ½”
One-quarter of an inch = ¼”
One-eighth of an inch = 1/8”
One-sixteenth of an inch = 1/16”
The centimeter is a unit in the metric system to measure the length of a commodity or living being. It is 1/100th of a meter which means
1 meter (m) = 100 centimeter (cm)
Or
1 centimeter (cm) = 0.01 meter (m)
Furthermore, 1 centimeter (cm) is equal to 10 millimeters (mm).
'CM' is used at the place of 'centimeter'. When 1 centimeter (cm) is converted into inches or is equal to 0.3937 inches.
Also, the relationship between cm and inch is that one inch is equal to 2.54 cm in the metric system.
1” = 2.54 cm
Centimeters and inches are both units of linear measurement. A centimeter is a unit of measurement in the metric system. The American system uses inches, which is sometimes referred to as the English system.
One foot is 0.3048 meters; One-inch is equal to 2.54 centimeters; one-yard equals 0.9144 meters and 1 mile is equal to 0.621 kilometers.
The commonly found metric rulers are divided into centimeters, each with ten marks showing millimeters. The standard U.S. ruler shows inches, with marks dividing each inch into sixteen parts. The modern rulers show both standard and metric measurements to simplify conversion from inches to centimeters.
| Centimeters (cm) | Inches (“) |
| 0.0396875 cm | 1/64” |
| 0.0793750 cm | 1/32” |
| 0.15875 cm | 1/16” |
| 0.3175 cm | 1/8” |
| 0.635 cm | ¼” |
| 1.27 cm | ½” |
| 2.54 cm | 1” |
| 5.08 cm | 2” |
| 7.62 cm | 3” |
| 10.16 cm | 4” |
| 12.70 cm | 5” |
| 15.24 cm | 6” |
| 17.78 cm | 7” |
| 20.32 cm | 8” |
| 22.86 cm | 9” |
| 25.40 cm | 10” |
Example: Convert 24 cm into inches.
Solution:
To convert 24 cm to inches, divide the amount by 2.54.
24 ÷ 2.54 = 9.448 (to 3 decimal place)
So, 24 cm = 9.448 inches.
