Established in 1969 and headquartered in Bhiwani, the board will aim to improve educational standards through regular reforms. It is expected to introduce new digital learning tools, strengthen the evaluation process, and conduct timely exams and results. HBSE will also manage Haryana Open School and HTET. 1. In 1969, the Haryana Board of School Education (HBSE) was established at in Chandigarh. The Board started working with a staff of 100 officials allocated from Punjab University, Chandigarh.
2. In 1970, HBSE conducted its first examination of Matric-level.
3. In 1976, the Board also started conducting the Middle school leaving examination (8th class).
4. In 1981, the office was shifted to Bhiwani. In 1987, the Board started conducting 10+2 exams and later in 1990, it also began the conduct of vocational exams.
5. In 1987, adopted a 10+2 pattern of education and conducted XII class exams under the new scheme.
6. In 1990, started conducting 10+2 Vocational Education exams.
7. In 1994, established Haryana Open School to increase its reach.
8. In 2006, adopted the semester system from session 2006–2007. It is the first Educational Board in India to do so and also the first Board to introduce relative grading, CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation) in all board classes i.e. Middle, Matric (Secondary or High School) and Senior Secondary School (Higher Secondary).
The Haryana Board conducts the annual examinations for Classes 8th, 10th, and 12th in the month of March. The board earlier conducted exams twice a year i.e. First Semester in September and Second Semester in March. The results for the Haryana board have been released. In recent years, the board has been conducting the exams annually instead of the 2-Term model.
HBSE, also known as BSEH also conducts Diploma in Education (D.Ed.) 2-year course every year. Apart from these tests, HBSE also conducts the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) from time to time for candidates. The integral part of the HBSE is Haryana Open School (HOS), and it conducts on-demand and annual and supplementary examinations at secondary and senior secondary levels. The main aim of HOS is to provide education to all those who do not have access to formal education due to any social, financial, or other constraints.
