NEET Syllabus 2027: Subject-Wise Topics, PDF Download & Chapter Weightage

The NEET syllabus 2027 covers Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from the NCERT Class 11 and 12 curriculum, prescribed by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The exam carries 180 compulsory questions worth 720 marks — 45 each in Physics and Chemistry, and 90 in Biology (45 Botany + 45 Zoology). NTA has not announced any syllabus changes for 2027 as of this writing, so the chapter list below reflects the current confirmed syllabus, last used for Re-NEET UG 2026 on June 21, 2026.

If you're preparing for NEET 2027, the syllabus itself is the easy part to get right — it hasn't changed in years. What has changed is the exam format: NEET 2027 is set to move to Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode, and Re-NEET 2026 already dropped the old optional-question structure in favour of 180 compulsory questions. Both of those affect how you should prepare, even though the topic list stays the same. This page breaks down the syllabus subject-wise, with PDF downloads, chapter weightage, and a preparation plan built around the current exam pattern.

Why the Syllabus Hasn't Changed, But Your Prep Should

NTA has confirmed no chapter additions or removals for the current NEET syllabus. But two structural changes affect how you should study it:

  • All 180 questions are now compulsory. The National Medical Commission communicated this change to NTA in a letter dated December 5, 2025, eliminating the earlier Section A/Section B format (35 compulsory + 10-of-15 optional per subject) starting with NEET 2026. There's no "safety net" chapter you can skip anymore — every topic in the syllabus below can show up as a question you must attempt.
  • NEET 2027 moves to CBT mode. The Education Ministry confirmed this on May 15, 2026, following the Radhakrishnan Committee's recommendations after the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. The syllabus and marking scheme are expected to stay the same — but practicing on a screen instead of an OMR sheet is a skill in itself. Build CBT-style mock tests into your revision from the start rather than switching formats a month before the exam.

Note on NEET 2027 syllabus status: NTA has not yet released a separate NEET UG 2027 syllabus or information bulletin. Everything on this page reflects the current official NEET UG syllabus (as revised for the 2026 cycle) — the most reliable reference available until NTA publishes 2027-specific documentation. This page will be updated the moment that notification is out.

NEET Syllabus 2027 for Biology

Biology carries 360 of the 720 total marks — the single highest-weightage subject in NEET, split evenly between Botany and Zoology.

Class 11 Topics Class 12 Topics
Diversity in Living World Reproduction
Structural Organisation in Animals Genetics and Evolution
Locomotion & Movement Biology and Human Welfare
Plant Physiology Biotechnology and Its Applications
Human Physiology Ecology and Environment
Digestion & Absorption Biotechnology Principles & Processes
Reproductive Health (foundation) Human Health & Disease
Breathing & Exchange of Gases Evolution
Excretory Products & Their Elimination
Biomolecules

Biology chapter-wise weightage (trend-based, from past NEET papers — not official NTA data):

Chapter Approx. Questions Priority
Human Physiology 10–13 High
Genetics & Evolution 9–12 High
Ecology & Environment 7–9 High
Plant Physiology 7–9 High
Cell Structure & Biomolecules 5–7 Moderate
Biotechnology & Its Applications 4–6 Moderate
Animal Kingdom & Diversity 4–6 Moderate

Preparation tips for Biology: NCERT is non-negotiable here — the large majority of Biology questions are drawn directly from its text. Draw diagrams by hand rather than just reading them; it forces recall in a way passive reading doesn't. Revise weekly rather than saving Biology for the final month, since the syllabus is genuinely vast.

NEET Syllabus 2027 for Physics

Physics is widely considered the most challenging NEET section because of its numerical and application-based questions.

Class 11 Topics Class 12 Topics
Physical World and Measurement Nature of Physical Law
Kinematics Electric Charges and Fields
Work, Energy and Power Current Electricity
Laws of Motion Magnetic Effects of Current & Magnetism
Gravitation Electromagnetic Induction & AC
Properties of Bulk Matter Electromagnetic Waves
Oscillations & Waves Optics (Ray & Wave)
Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation (foundation) Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation
Atoms and Nuclei
Electronic Devices

Physics chapter-wise weightage (trend-based estimate):

Chapter Approx. Questions Priority
Current Electricity 3–5 High
Laws of Motion & Work, Energy, Power 3–5 High
Electrostatics 3–4 High
Magnetic Effects of Current & Magnetism 2–4 Moderate
Modern Physics (Atoms, Nuclei, Dual Nature) 2–4 Moderate
Optics (Ray & Wave) 2–3 Moderate
Semiconductors & Communication Systems 2–3 Moderate

Preparation tips for Physics: Master fundamentals before chasing tricky numericals — most NEET Physics questions test a clean concept applied cleverly, not an obscure formula. Timed numerical practice matters more here than in any other subject, since Physics is where students most often run out of time.

NEET Syllabus 2027 for Chemistry

Chemistry splits into three distinct zones — Physical, Organic, and Inorganic — each requiring a different study approach.

Class 11 Topics Class 12 Topics
Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry Solid State
Structure of Atom Solutions
Classification of Elements & Periodicity Electrochemistry
Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure Chemical Kinetics
Thermodynamics Isolation of Elements
Redox Reactions p-Block Elements
Hydrogen Coordination Compounds
s- and p-Block Elements Alcohols, Phenols & Ethers
Hydrocarbons Aldehydes, Ketones & Carboxylic Acids
Organic Chemistry – Basic Principles Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen
Biomolecules & Polymers

Chemistry chapter-wise weightage (trend-based estimate):

Chapter Approx. Questions Priority
Chemical Bonding & Molecular Structure 3–4 High
Coordination Compounds 2–4 High
Aldehydes, Ketones & Carboxylic Acids 2–4 High
General Organic Chemistry (Basic Principles) 2–3 High
Equilibrium (Physical & Chemical) 2–3 Moderate
Electrochemistry & Chemical Kinetics 2–3 Moderate
p-, d- and f-Block Elements 2–3 Moderate

Preparation tips for Chemistry: Treat it as three separate subjects. Physical Chemistry rewards numerical practice, Inorganic rewards structured memorisation (flashcards work well), and Organic rewards understanding reaction mechanisms rather than memorising outcomes.

NEET 2027 Exam Pattern (Corrected)

All 180 questions are compulsory — there is no internal choice, and no "Section B" to skip weaker chapters in.

Subject Number of Questions Maximum Marks
Physics 45 180
Chemistry 45 180
Biology (Botany + Zoology) 90 360
Total 180 720
  • Total Marks: 720
  • Marking Scheme: +4 for correct, −1 for incorrect, 0 for unattempted
  • Duration: 3 hours (180 minutes) is the standing rule following the Section B removal — shortened from the earlier 3 hours 20 minutes. Note that Re-NEET UG 2026 specifically ran for 3 hours 15 minutes, a one-time extension NTA granted for that sitting; whether NEET 2027 reverts to 3 hours flat or keeps the extension hasn't been confirmed yet.
  • Exam Mode: NEET 2027 is expected to move to Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode — officially confirmed direction, NTA's operational bulletin still pending

Source: The Section B removal and revised 3-hour duration were communicated by the National Medical Commission to NTA in a letter dated December 5, 2025.

Admit Card Released June 14, 2026
Result Declared July 16, 2026
Candidates Qualified Over 11.21 lakh, out of close to 20 lakh who appeared
Counselling Status MCC (AIQ) and state counselling rounds currently in progress

Check your standing with the NEET cut-off page, download the official NEET answer key, or view your NEET result if you haven't already.

NEET Syllabus 2027 Preparation Strategy

  1. Build a subject-balanced schedule. Since all 180 questions are compulsory, there's no chapter you can safely deprioritise — allocate time to weak areas rather than only reinforcing strengths.
  2. Revise daily, not just before tests. Close each study day with a short review of what you covered — this is what actually moves material into long-term memory.
  3. Take full-length mock tests weekly, ideally in CBT format given the 2027 mode shift, using our NEET mock test resources.
  4. Work through previous year question papers to see how this exact syllabus has actually been tested — this matters more than any predicted weightage table, including the ones on this page.
  5. Track your probable rank once you're consistently scoring well in mocks, using the NEET rank predictor.
  6. Mark each chapter's status as Not Started / In Progress / Completed (with PYQs solved) as you go, rather than relying on memory of what you've covered. A vast syllabus like this is easy to lose track of otherwise, and a simple checklist catches gaps before test day rather than after.

NEET Syllabus 2027 FAQs

Has NTA released a separate official syllabus for NEET 2027?

No. As of this writing, NTA has not published a separate NEET UG 2027 syllabus or information bulletin. The most reliable current reference is the official NEET UG syllabus as revised for the 2026 cycle, which this page follows. This page will be updated as soon as NTA releases 2027-specific documentation.

What is the NEET syllabus 2027 based on?

The NEET syllabus 2027 is based on the NCERT Class 11 and 12 curriculum for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, as prescribed by the National Medical Commission (NMC). NTA has not announced any changes to this syllabus as of this writing.

How many questions are there in NEET, and are any of them optional?

NEET consists of 180 questions across Physics (45), Chemistry (45), and Biology (90, split 45 Botany + 45 Zoology). All 180 are compulsory — the National Medical Commission directed NTA to remove the earlier optional Section B format in a letter dated December 5, 2025, effective from NEET 2026 onward, so there is no "choose 10 of 15" structure anymore.

Will NEET 2027 be conducted in CBT (online) mode?

Yes — the Education Ministry officially confirmed on May 15, 2026 that NEET-UG will shift to Computer-Based Test mode from the 2027 cycle, replacing the pen-and-paper OMR format. NTA's detailed operational bulletin covering shift timings and city allocation is still pending.

Will the syllabus change because NEET is moving to CBT mode?

No. The CBT shift changes how the exam is delivered, not what is tested. The syllabus, subject weightage, and marking scheme (+4 correct, −1 incorrect) are expected to remain the same.

Which subject carries the highest weightage in NEET?

Biology carries the highest weightage at 360 out of 720 total marks (50%), split evenly between Botany and Zoology at 45 questions each.
