The Indian numeral system (also known as the numeration system) is a writing method for representing numbers that were developed in India. It is a mathematical notation for consistently representing numbers in a set using digits or other symbols. This number system consists of ten symbols that create a set of numerals: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. Each thing being tallied was marked with a distinctive mark long before numerals were conceived. This was a complicated method of expressing huge numbers. It was recognized that a standardized counting system was required. This is how the numerical system was created. Various numerical systems were employed in various countries and periods. The Indian number system was named after the system used in India.

The Indian numeral system includes numerals, which are symbols that are used to represent numbers. Based on the nomenclature used for distinct place values, this system can be identified from other numeric systems. We count in ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousand, lakhs, ten lakhs, and crores when we employ the Indian number system. Separators

Separators (commas) are used after every period in the Indian numeral system when representing a number in its standard numeral form. For example, the number 763489247 is written as 76,34,89,247 by employing separators after each period in the traditional Indian numeral system.

Number Names

The nomenclature for different place values of digits in the number determines the number names in the Indian numeral system. The following points should be considered while writing number names for numerals in the Indian system:

Separators are used to differentiate distinct periods in the Indian number system. As a result, these periods can be utilized to read the different place values in the number while writing the number names. We can write the number names with these place values in mind.

The International Numeral System and the Indian Numeral System are not the same. The positioning of separators (commas) and the nomenclature of distinct place values are the fundamental differences between the Indian and International numeration systems. The International Numerical System is widely utilized around the world. The International number system is used when we count in units of ones, hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions, and billions. Example 1

In the Indian numeric system, rewrite the number 2934782 with commas. Solution:
To distinguish between periods in the Indian number system, we employ commas as separators. As a result, after each period, we add a comma.
After the hundreds digit, insert the first comma from the right side of the number.
After the thousands period, or two places after the first comma, the second comma is inserted.
After the lakhs period, a third comma is added.
As a result, the given number 2934782 is written as 29,34,782 in the Indian numeral system.
