Follow these steps to access and download your NEET 2026 scorecard from the official NTA website once the result is declared:
After downloading the NEET UG 2026 scorecard, verify all the following details carefully. Any discrepancy should be immediately reported to NTA:
The NEET percentile indicates how many candidates scored below you in the exam. NTA uses two standard formulas to calculate NEET percentile — one based on marks, and one based on rank.
When two or more candidates score identical total marks in NEET, NTA applies a step-by-step tie-breaking system to assign unique All India Ranks. The criteria are applied in the following sequence until the tie is resolved:
| Priority | Tie-Breaking Rule | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Marks in Biology (Botany + Zoology) | Candidate with higher Biology marks is ranked higher. Biology carries 360 out of 720 marks — the highest subject weightage. |
| 2 | Marks in Chemistry | If Biology marks are equal, the candidate with higher Chemistry marks (180 marks) is ranked higher. |
| 3 | Fewer Incorrect Answers (All Subjects) | Candidate with fewer wrong responses across all three subjects is given a better rank. This rewards accuracy over guesswork. |
| 4 | Age / Application Number (Rare) | In rare cases where all above criteria are equal, older candidates have historically been given preference — though NTA has updated this policy in recent years. |
Two candidates A and B both score 685 out of 720:
| Candidate | Biology | Chemistry | Physics | Incorrect Answers | Rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | 350 | 170 | 165 | 3 | Higher (Biology 355 vs 350) |
| B | 355 | 165 | 165 | 2 | Lower AIR (Better Biology) |
The NEET cutoff is divided into two types: the qualifying cutoff (minimum marks to be eligible for counselling) and the admission cutoff (rank at which seats close in a specific college). The qualifying cutoff is set by NTA as a percentile benchmark:
| Category | Qualifying Percentile | Expected Qualifying Score (Approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| General (UR) | 50th Percentile | 720 – 137 |
| OBC / SC / ST | 40th Percentile | 136 – 107 |
| General – PwD | 45th Percentile | 136 – 121 |
| OBC / SC / ST – PwD | 40th Percentile | 120 – 107 |
Understanding the relationship between NEET marks and All India Rank helps aspirants estimate their expected rank and predict college admission chances before the official result. The table below is based on previous year NEET trends and is indicative only:
| Marks Range (out of 720) | Expected AIR Range | Likely Admission Prospects |
|---|---|---|
| 700 – 720 | 1 – 10 | AIIMS New Delhi, Top Government MBBS |
| 680 – 699 | 10 – 200 | AIIMS (various), JIPMER, Top Govt. Medical Colleges |
| 650 – 679 | 200 – 2,000 | Top government medical colleges (AIQ) |
| 600 – 649 | 2,000 – 10,000 | State government MBBS colleges (state quota) |
| 550 – 599 | 10,000 – 20,000 | State government colleges (state quota, competitive) |
| 500 – 549 | 20,000 – 35,000 | State government colleges (lower competition states) |
| 450 – 499 | 35,000 – 55,000 | Private medical colleges (deemed universities) |
| Below 450 | 55,000+ | Private colleges (management quota), AYUSH programmes |
Note: The NEET marks vs rank table is for reference only based on previous year trends. Actual ranks depend on total number of candidates, paper difficulty, and seat availability.
Use NEET Rank Predictor ToolAlong with the NEET 2026 result, NTA will also release the NEET UG 2026 merit list on neet.nta.nic.in. The merit list is prepared separately for candidates opting for the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats. The merit list PDF includes each candidate's merit rank, total marks, roll number, percentile score, and category.
The AIQ merit list is shared with the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and state counselling authorities for the seat allotment process. Candidates must check their name on the merit list and note their AIR before beginning counselling registration.

Once the NEET 2026 result is declared, there are several time-sensitive steps every qualified candidate must complete promptly. Missing a step or deadline can result in losing a seat:
NEET UG counselling is conducted at two levels. Candidates can and should participate in both to maximise their chances of securing a seat:
| Counselling Type | Conducted By | Seats Covered | Portal |
|---|---|---|---|
| All India Quota (AIQ) | MCC / DGHS (Ministry of Health) | 15% AIQ seats in govt. colleges + 100% AIIMS, JIPMER, BHU, AMU, ESIC, AFMC, Central Universities | mcc.nic.in |
| State Quota | Respective State Counselling Authorities | 85% state quota seats in govt. and private colleges within the state | State-specific portals |
| Deemed Universities | MCC / DGHS | 100% seats in deemed medical and dental universities | mcc.nic.in |
MCC typically conducts 4 rounds of NEET counselling. Each round involves registration, fee payment, choice filling, seat allotment, and college reporting:
| Round | Details |
|---|---|
| Round 1 | First allotment based on rank and choice filling. Candidates may accept, upgrade, or exit. |
| Round 2 | Upgradation round for Round 1 allottees and fresh registration for others. |
| Mop-Up Round | For seats remaining vacant after Round 1 and 2. Fresh registration required. |
| Stray Vacancy Round | Final round to fill any remaining vacant seats. Seat once accepted is final — no upgradation. |
