IOQM Eligibility Criteria 2025-26

The Mathematics Teachers’ Association of India (MTAI) has officially announced the IOQM Exam Date 2025-26, with the Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) scheduled to be held on 7th September 2025. Along with the exam date, MTAI has also outlined the eligibility criteria for students aspiring to appear for this prestigious exam.

Students studying in Class 8 to 12 are eligible to apply for IOQM 2025-26. Additionally, participants must be Indian citizens and should meet specific age requirements as per the norms set by MTAI. This exam is a crucial opportunity for students passionate about mathematics and aiming to participate in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).

IOQM acts as the first step of India’s Mathematical Olympiad Programme, helping students qualify for advanced stages such as RMO (Regional Mathematical Olympiad) and INMO (Indian National Mathematical Olympiad), eventually leading to representation at the global level through the IMO.

Eligible students are encouraged to register early and start their preparation to embark on this prestigious mathematical journey.

IOQM Exam Pattern:

  • Level: Intermediate (Class X & XI)
  • Mode of Exam: Pen and Paper based
  • Type of Questions: Multiple Choice and Short Answer requiring detailed proofs
  • Number of Questions: 30
  • Duration of Exam: 3 Hours
  • Answer Range: Whole numbers between 00 and 99

Organizers: The IOQM is organized in collaboration with three esteemed institutions:

  • Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT)
  • Mathematics Teachers Association of India (MTAI)
  • Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research

Participating in IOQM opens the door to various advanced stages of mathematical competitions, providing students a platform to showcase and enhance their problem-solving skills.

For more details, students can visit the official websites of the organizing institutions.
