    jee main exam

JEE Main Marks vs Rank vs Percentile: JEE Mains is regarded as one of the toughest entrance exams. Candidates who pass the test can gain admission to India’s top central government engineering institutes. As a result, knowing JEE Main scores vs percentile is essential for students. After all, having a thorough grasp of percentile versus rank will allow them to design an effective study strategy. Students frequently have doubts regarding the JEE Mains marks versus percentile. The National Testing Agency (NTA) publishes JEE Main results in percentile scores for candidates. The JEE Main percentile scores are the normalised grades and not the candidates’ actual marks.

JEE Main score not only determines the JEE qualifying cut-off for JEE Advanced but also plays a vital role in JEE main ranks. Although admissions are based on JEE counseling, one can calculate their rank if they know the score. This will help in figuring out the colleges that you one to join.

Why are JEE Results Announced in Percentile?

The JEE exam is conducted in two sessions; there is the possibility of a difference in the difficulty level of the questions; therefore, to overcome this barrier, normalisation is accepted. The normalisation of marks is not the actual marks but instead is a comparative score which is calculated by the NTA formula.

    • After compiling the students’ marks, NTA uses the normalisation formula to arrive at a percentile score in Chemistry, Maths and physics.
    • The top score in each section will be assigned a percentile of 100.
    • This percentile score is also used to prepare the JEE Main merit list.
    • The percentile score is calculated to 7 decimal places to avoid ties between two applicants.
    • The final JEE Main percentile is calculated only after the normalisation process. For each session, this score is calculated on a scale of 100 to 0.

    JEE Percentile Score

The JEE percentile score is calculated based on how an applicant has performed compared to all other applicants who appeared for the exam. It is not the percentage score nor the raw marks.

Estimating rank prior to NTA’s actual declaration can be advantageous for applicants only if they have enough information on how to access it. Furthermore, they should be familiar with essential aspects such as the normalisation procedure and tiebreakers to better comprehend what goes into judging JEE Main Marks vs Percentile.

    JEE Main Marks vs Percentile

Besides determining the Percentile, students must also know what rank will be assigned to them in relation to their Percentile. Furthermore, in addition to a thorough comprehension of how JEE Main marks vs percentile work, students must comprehend which rank is assigned to each Percentile.

Below are the expected marks vs percentile data calculated by analysing previous years’ scores. The JEE marks vs percentile score help students in estimating their JEE main percentile with their JEE main score.

    JEE Main Normalisation Method

After aggregating the raw marks, the NTA uses the normalisation formula to calculate percentile scores for each subject, including the total. Each session’s highest score will receive the same Percentile of 100. The percentile score is used to generate the JEE Main merit list. To avoid ties among applicants with the same scores, the percentile scores will be calculated up to 7 decimal places.

How to Calculate the JEE Percentile?

Below is the formula for calculating JEE percentile:

A candidate’s total percentile score equals 100 (the number of candidates whose raw score from the session is equal to or less than the candidate’s total score) / (The total number of candidates who appeared in that particular session).

    JEE Main Tiebreaker Guidelines

The below guidelines are followed when two or more students get equal scores. The NTA ensures a fair process to distribute marks and parity in the ranking system.

    • Candidates with a better Mathematics percentile score are going to be ranked above.
    • If the tie is still there, the applicant whose Physics percentile is higher will be assigned the higher position.
    • If the tie is still there, the applicant with the higher percentile score in Chemistry will be ranked higher.
    • If a tie still remains, older applicants will be given preference.

FAQs About JEE Main Marks vs Rank Vs Percentile

    1. Is scoring 70 percentile in JEE Mains good?

A 70 percentile in JEE Mains indicates that you achieved more than 70% of the students who took the exam. Though your Percentile is in the midst of “not too good” and “not too bad,” you may have to compromise on either your chosen college or branch because your rank would be around 3 lakh with this Percentile. There is always room for improvement; thus, you should put more effort into the paper.

    2. How much percentile is required for NIT?

General Category candidates need to score a minimum of 95+ percentile score to get into NITs. For reserved category candidates, an 80+ percentile score is enough to get into NITs.

    3. In JEE Main, are the percentage and Percentile the same?

No, the percentage represents the percentage of total marks obtained, but the Percentile represents the performance of the student in the test. The Percentile is the marks percentage scored by candidates in comparison to other students, as well as the number of students that received higher and lower scores as a result of this.

    4. What is the JEE Mains pattern?

Paper 1 is for B.tech students, while Paper 2 is for B. Plan and B. Arch students. The JEE Mains exam for B.E/B.Tech courses comprise 90 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) worth 300 points. Paper 2A will be held for architecture students seeking admission to the B.Arch degree. It will consist of 82 questions for 400 points. B.Plan will consist of 105 multiple-choice questions for 400 points.

    5. How can raw scores be used to determine JEE Main percentile scores?

The National Testing Agency (NTA) translates the candidate’s marks into a scale range. It uses a formula to estimate an individual’s percentile score for their JEE score. The marks are calculated in normalisation method because the JEE Main exam is given in different sessions.

    Conclusion

JEE Main percentile vs marks is intended to guide applicants in estimating their probable position and deciding on their desired colleges and branch. Candidates who want to get into top engineering Institutes must prepare for each of the examinations with the same accuracy and hard work because this scorecard considers the Percentile of numerous session papers, make sure you focus on each subject and prepare it equally well.
