How to Fill the NEET Application Form: Step-by-Step

Registration happens entirely online at neet.nta.nic.in.

Step 1: Registration

• Visit the official NEET website and click "New Registration."
• Read the instructions and click "Proceed."
• Enter personal details: name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID, security pin.
• Submit to generate your Application Number and Password. You'll receive an OTP on your email and mobile to verify and secure your login.

Step 2: Fill in Application Details

Log in with your Application Number and Password, then enter:

• Personal details (gender, category, nationality, etc.)
• Academic qualifications (Class 10, 11, and 12 school details)
• Exam city preference (you can select up to 4 cities — allocation depends on availability, so apply early for your top choice)
• Medium of question paper
• Parental/guardian details
• Additional information — Aadhaar, PwBD status, etc.

Step 3: Upload Required Documents

Photographs should be recent, taken against a white background, with the face and ears clearly visible — no cap, sunglasses, or accessories. Ensure scans meet the exact size range, or the portal will reject the upload.

Step 4: Pay the Application Fee

Accepted payment methods: Debit/Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI.

The fee is generally non-refundable. If you accidentally submit payment twice, NTA typically refunds the extra amount within about 7 working days — no action needed beyond keeping your payment receipt as proof if you need to follow up.

Step 5: Download Confirmation Page

After successful payment, download and print both the confirmation page and final application form. No hard copy needs to be sent to NTA — just keep these safe for the exam and counselling process ahead.

Documents to Keep Ready Before You Start

Filling the form is far less stressful with everything on hand in advance:

• Valid, active mobile number and email address
• Class 10 and Class 12 details (mark sheet, certificate, roll number, school address)
• Correct spelling of parents' names, exactly as on official documents
• Aadhaar number
• Scanned passport-size and postcard-size photographs, signature, and thumb impression, all within the specified size/format
• Payment method ready — card, net banking login, or UPI

NEET Application Form Correction Window

NTA typically opens a short correction window after the main registration period closes, allowing edits to specific fields only.

Note: Aadhaar number, registered mobile number, and email ID are typically not editable through this window.

• No offline correction requests are accepted.

Worth knowing: in the Re-NEET UG 2026 cycle specifically, NTA opened a correction window (May 15–21, 2026) limited to just address and exam-city updates for candidates whose registration carried over from the cancelled exam — a narrower scope than the standard correction window. This shows the exact rules can shift depending on circumstances, so always check that cycle's specific notification rather than assuming last year's rules apply exactly.

Correcting Photo or Signature Discrepancies

If NTA flags an issue with your uploaded photograph or signature, you can generally fix it through your candidate login:

1. Log in via the NEET candidate portal with your application number and password.
2. Locate the photo/signature upload option on your dashboard.
3. Upload corrected images meeting the required specifications.
4. Verify carefully before final submission.
5. You'll receive an OTP on your registered email and mobile — enter it to confirm.
6. Download and keep the resulting correction slip for your records.

What Happens After You Apply

Once registration closes, NTA releases the NEET admit card a few weeks before the exam. After the exam, NTA publishes the provisional NEET answer key, followed by results and category-wise NEET cut-off marks, which feed into NEET counselling.
