Chemistry, a science that covers the study of matter, is fascinating and baffling at the same time. It explores the structure of the world around us and the relationship between inanimate objects and living beings.

In competitive exams like JEE Advanced 2022 and NEET 2022, chemistry is a crucial subject. Consequently, preparing for the board exam will also benefit students in competitive exams. What is needed is regular practice and a thorough understanding of the chapters. Students will learn how to score high in the CBSE Class 12 Term 2 Chemistry Paper by going through this article.

Tips to Score High in CBSE 12th Chemistry Term 2 Exam

    1. Prepare from NCERT and Reference Books

The majority of CBSE exam papers contain questions based on NCERT textbooks. It would be best to cover all topics in your Chemistry paper with diagrams and graphs, followed by examples and exercise questions.

One can also use other reference books after NCERT to practice problems and numerical problems. Start with chapters that hold the most weightage under different sections to ease your way into the questions.

    2. Thorough Knowledge of Syllabus and Exam Pattern

To score high in any subject in CBSE Class 12 term 2 exams, knowing the syllabus is one of the key points. Before starting the exam, it is best to know the domain-specific topics one needs to know, the topics that should be skipped, and the topics a student still needs to focus on more. Simply doing so will save considerable amounts of time.

As of now, there is a 30% reduction in the CBSE class 12 syllabus 2022, and it has been divided into two terms. The syllabus for each term is 50%. If students know how much weight each topic has, they will have more time for revision as they can divide the time accordingly.

    3. Plan your study

Exams turn into a nightmare for those who neglect their textbooks all year. Students try to cram a year’s worth of coursework in as little time as possible. Students should plan to study effectively for the class 12 term 2 chemistry exam. It will boost their productivity. Try not to take on a huge amount of material every day. In case one rushes through all the chapters at once, he/she will be able to remember very little of it on exam day.

One easy way is to filter the topics. For example, divide the topics based on their difficulty level. In addition, one can split it based on how relevant the topic is to other concepts and study similar ones, leaving the remaining topics to be studied later.

    4. Study on Daily Basis

If a student tries to cover the entire syllabus in one sitting, he will feel stressed and forget things during exams. Conversely, if one is clear about the topic, he will be able to perform well on the examination. Students should not devote too much time to organic chemistry as it contains reactions and formulae. They should try to understand the concept and solve some equations. When students cram the organic part of the chemistry, they are more likely to make a mistake on the test and write the wrong equations for reactions.

It is better to learn by gaining a thorough understanding of the topic rather than memorizing everything. By performing laboratory exercises, one would be able to learn this. It would help students become familiar with chemical reactions. When writing the chemical reaction, they should consider certain facts, such as the element’s state, i.e. whether it is a solid, liquid, or gas.

    5. Solve Sample and Previous Year Papers

In order to determine what kind of questions are asked, students should refer to the previous year’s papers. Moreover, it would be best if one also referred to the latest CBSE sample papers to understand exam patterns. By observing sample papers, students can understand exam patterns and mark schemes. In other words, students learn the kind of questions on the chemistry board exam and the weighting of each question. Additionally, students may also learn how many words they need to put in a response based on the grading structure.

As soon as you have covered all the important topics, you should practice CBSE 12th previous question papers. It is one of the most important tips for achieving outstanding scores in CBSE Class 12 in 2022. Additionally, last year’s papers can assist students in self-assessment because they can examine their preparation by solving them. Solving these papers helps students gain confidence and reduces anxiety as it helps to understand the subject and types of questions thoroughly.

    6. Keep Solving Numericals

Whenever you write an exam, you are limited by time. Although it may seem feasible to attempt a descriptive question, it takes much time. However, it does not guarantee a full mark. You can always miss some keywords or important points while compromising on other parts of the answer.

For this reason, the following points are advisable:

    • Make sure to practice numerical problems from chapters like ‘Electrochemistry.’
    • Concentrate on Organic Chemistry’s reaction names
    • Focus on the product, its properties, and anomalous behaviour in sections such as ‘p-Block Elements’ in Inorganic Chemistry.
    • Pay attention to name reactions like Williamson, Wolff-Kishner, Hell-Volhard-Zelinsky, and Clemmensen reduction.

    7. Improve Writing Skills

It is often difficult to write much content within the allotted time. In addition to improving your speed and confidence, writing and solving equations allows you to become more familiar with the keywords and highlights that are supposed to be included in your answers.

For instance, in Organic Chemistry, when you mention the names of reactants and products, the solution is more logical. Also, a neatly organized piece of work is always a benefit to students. When writing long and descriptive responses, try to present them in points, followed by diagrams that act as visual aids.

    8. Do not underestimate the Tail Chapters

Many students overlook textbook chapters titled “Biomolecules”, “Polymers”, and “Chemistry in everyday life”, as they carry only 10 marks. However, these three chapters have high scoring potential. In order to revise these chapters on time without detracting from the time devoted to more important and complex topics, students can prepare short notes from these chapters in a tabular format.

    9. Manage Time Efficiently in the Exam Hall

It is important to use reading time wisely. When you get stuck on a question, leave some space and keep going. Additionally, some experts have advised students to leave questions on Organic Chemistry to the end as they are more complicated than questions on Inorganic and Physical Chemistry. Organize your time to have 15 minutes to revise your answers at the end.
