    Tips for memorisation

The NEET exam has a vast syllabus and consists of four subjects. To not lose marks, one has to remember every formula and concept. The first thing is to prepare yourself for the environment that works best for you. This will help in memorising faster.

    Preparing notes

    Information that is organised is easier to remember. Active learning is more effective; students need to do things with the materials they engage in. If you find something in the syllabus that is difficult to remember, note it down, writing makes you already familiar with the concept and clearing it for the exam. Students often make the mistake of not taking down notes while studying. Note-taking helps in effective recall of what you have learned. How to prepare good notes for your NEET Biology exam;

    • Writing down the questions at the top of the page that focus on the key learning objective.
    • It is important to leave some space while writing down your notes; the space can be utilised later when students revisit those notes and get something essential to add on.
    • Using bullet points makes the notes look crisp and organised.
    • After reading a chapter, try writing down the summary of what you have understood. Writing helps your brain quickly register what you have learned; also, it’s a great way of revising before the main exam.
    • Making flowcharts and learning shortcuts to topics like the Glycolysis pathway,Krebs cycle. Flowcharts help in retaining the information longer. Stick them in front of your study table and learn them every day.

    Keep the NCERT handy

To score maximum marks in your biology paper, it is crucial to keep the NCERT handy. It has a thorough and profound explanation of each concept, making it easier for students to understand each topic. The best way to improve your learning skills is to use highlighters and markers and underline the important points; visual learning enhances memory.

    Practice

Practice makes a man perfect, as the saying goes. Now and again, test yourself by actively remembering the material you’re trying to learn. Make an intentional effort to quiz yourself rather than merely rereading notes or a textbook. Students frequently believe they recall content simply because it is familiar to them when they revisit it. Instead, challenge yourself by asking questions to remember the answers or content without looking at them. This will allow you to pinpoint sections where you are having difficulty and learn them again. Also, avoid quizzing yourself just after attempting to remember anything. Wait a few hours, or maybe a day or two, to understand the topic and let it sit in the memory.

    Speaking it aloud

After learning a new concept about ecology, try talking to yourself about it. The benefits of the environment and everything related to it. Speaking it aloud makes it easier to grasp the information rather than simply reading.

    Online resources

There are various online resources to make your learning process more manageable. There are a lot of videos online that help explain every biology concept in detail, making it easier to understand. Visual concepts are essential as they connect directly to the brain’s visuospatial areas. There are various diagrams in your NEET Biology syllabus and it is important to learn all of them. Thus watching more videos will help you quickly memorise and score good marks. Our brains retain movements and images better than explicit textual material. Make a habit of watching the videos available online on complex topics. Watching videos can help you remember any complex concepts quickly.

    NEET Previous year question papers

Previous year question papers are important as they help in understanding the pattern of the paper. By solving more and more questions, one becomes familiar with the questions and the pattern, quickly identifying each question and solving it within no time. Solving question papers from the previous year will allow you to test how much you have learned. Solving questions help you identify frequently asked questions, and this remains in the memory for a long time. The mass practice of question papers enables you to remember in the exam hall; you can easily connect to the questions. Previous year’s paper shows that the below-mentioned topics are important for NEET 2022:

    • Animal Husbandry
    • Evolution
    • Human Health and Disease
    • Human Reproduction
    • Reproductive health
    • Biotechnology
    • Animal Kingdom
    • Biomolecules
    • Plant Physiology
    • Cell and Cell Cycle
    • Ecology
    • Diversity of Living Organisms
    • Human Physiology

    Practice MCQs

To memorise quickly, practising MCQs is a must. After a thorough revision of the chapters, try solving MCQ questions. This will help nourish what you have learned, thereby staying in your memory for a long time. Concentrating on the phases of a solution may also be utilised to better grasp the process and answer any questions.

    Mock tests

Mock tests allow you to examine your performance and work on your weak points. Analysis of mock test performance is possibly more significant and helps you in learning effectively. Students should Make sure to evaluate their performance after each mock test. One can take as many mock examinations as they like with the NEET online practice test series readily available online.

    Revision

For such entrance exams, last-minute revision is essential. Make revision notes, which are very brief notes of topics that are most likely to appear. Make it a practice to go over anything you read at the end of the day before moving to the next topic; this strategy can help you recall better. Make sure to quiz yourself after finishing a chapter or idea to keep track of your progress. Revise your notes and solutions several times to ensure that you remember everything in the NEET syllabus for a long time.

    Indulge in group studies

Studying with others allows students to understand the subject deeper by discussing it with fellow students. One notable advantage of learning in a group is asking peers questions if something doesn’t make sense. Having other students present to assist with study ideas can provide a more in-depth grasp of the course material.

    Healthy food

Make sure you consume nutritious food, stay active by going for walks or running and avoid junk food. Consuming foods such as almonds, broccoli, blueberries, and pumpkin seeds help improve memory and allows you to stay focussed for extended periods. Consume nutrient-dense foods to keep your body healthy and functioning correctly.

    Practising Meditation

Meditation is significant since it provides individual solitude and concentrates on essential things vital to you. Because these exams are stressful, it is necessary to meditate for 15 to 20 minutes every day. Meditation helps in improving performance efficiency.

    Stay focussed

Make sure you don’t have any electronic gadgets around you while studying, as they can be a huge distraction. If anything is dragging you down, it is best to cut it off.

    Taking breaks

Preparing for the test at the last minute might lead to tension and nervousness because NEET requires studying for at least 8-10 hours every day. Take breaks and spend some time de-stressing. Take a break and see how helpful it is in learning how to memorise stuff quickly. It will help you realise that you remember concepts more vividly when you are taking small mindful breaks.

    Studying in the morning

Studying in the morning wee hours is beneficial as it is the best time when we wake up fresh from a good night’s sleep. Our minds are fully functional and refreshed. The natural light available is good for the eyes and overall well being. This period is excellent for opening a new topic and learning it. Mornings give a better recollection ability when you are most alert and attentive; therefore, students should study in the morning. It is important for students to choose a time that best suits them and stick to it, which will enhance their learning and make it more effective. Chapters like Plant Physiology, Division and Cell Biology require special attention.

    Conclusion

The tips mentioned above will assist students in preparing for and long term memorising for the NEET Biology entrance test. The above tips will also help formulate solid strategic plans to provide essential dos and don’ts throughout the preparation. Maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. It is inevitable to be stressed out in exams but don’t let it overpower your preparations. Exams should always be approached with a positive attitude since attitude impacts effectiveness. Whatever your outcomes are, remember that you are learning. Even if you fail the exam, consider it a learning experience. What matters is knowledge and what you have learned.
