    Important Highlights Of The Exam

    From April 26 students of Class 10 and Class 12 will face Term 2 board exams. Exams will be held in two shifts. This time you have to cross a subjective exam hurdle. Just 15 days are remaining before the beginning of the Term 2 exams. So, you have to start your revision and be aware of all the updated news declared by CBSE related to Term 2 examinations.

    CBSE Term 2 Syllabus for Class 10 Mathematics

    CBSE has made many changes in the Class 10 Mathematics syllabus from time to time under the growth of the subject and for society’s needs. The recently updated Class 10 Term 2 mathematics syllabus includes the following units and their weightage:

    The topic-Wise Distribution of the Term 2 Mathematics Syllabus for Class 10 Students

    CBSE has decided to continue the Term 1 five units with the remaining topics for the Class 10 Term 2 Mathematics exam. The topic-wise distribution of these units is as follows:

    Unit-I  ALGEBRA:

    According to the NCERT Mathematics book, this unit consists of two chapters for the Term 2 exam.

    • Chapter 4 – Quadratic Equations

    Topics included in this chapter are:

    • Standard form of a quadratic equation ax² + bx + c = 0, (a ≠ 0).
    • Solutions of quadratic equations (only real roots) by factorization and using quadratic formulas.
    • Relationship between discriminant and nature of roots.
    • Situational problems based on quadratic equations related to day-to-day activities.

    Note:- Problems on equations reducible to quadratic equations are excluded in the Term 2 exam.

    • Chapter 5 – Arithmetic Progressions

    Topics included in this chapter are:

    • Motivation for studying Arithmetic Progression Derivation of the nth term and sum of the first n terms of A.P. and their application in solving daily life problems.

    Note:- Applications based on the sum to n terms of an A.P. are excluded in the Term 2 exam.

    Unit-II GEOMETRY:

    According to the CBSE Term 2 Mathematics syllabus, two chapters are included in this unit.

    • Chapter 10 – Circles

    Topics included in this chapter are:

    • Tangent to a circle at
    • Point of contact

    To Prove:-

    • The tangent at any point of a circle is perpendicular to the radius through the point of contact.
    • The lengths of tangents drawn from an external point to a circle are equal.
    • Chapter 11 – Constructions

    Topics included in this chapter are:

    • Division of a line segment in a given ratio (internally).
    • Tangents to a circle from a point outside it

    Unit-III TRIGONOMETRY:

    There are two chapters from this unit in the NCERT Mathematics book. But, in Term 2 exams, CBSE has preferred only one chapter.

    • Chapter 9 – Some Applications of Trigonometry

    Topics included in this chapter are:

    • Angle of elevation
    • Angle of Depression
    • Simple problems with heights and distances
    • Problems should not involve more than two right triangles.

    Note:- Problems with elevation angles or depression should be only 30°, 45°, or 60° for the Term 2 exam.

    Unit-IV MENSURATION:

    In the Class 10 Term 2 Mathematics exam, CBSE selected only a given chapter in the NCERT book from this unit and decided to analyse students.

    • Chapter 13 – Surface Areas and Volumes

    Topics included in this chapter are:

    • Surface areas and volumes of combinations of any two of the following: cubes, cuboids, spheres, hemispheres, and right circular cylinders/cones.
    • Problems involving converting one type of metallic solid into another and other mixed problems.

    Note:- Problems with a combination of not more than two different solids be taken in the Term 2 exam.

    Unit-V STATISTICS & PROBABILITY:

    From this unit, this time, CBSE has decided to analyse students for knowledge of the remaining topics of Statistics. So the only chapter included is

    • Chapter 14 – Statistics

    Topics included in this chapter are:

    • Mean, median, and mode of grouped data.
    • Mean by Direct Method and Assumed Mean Method only.

    Note:- Avoid Bimodal situations in the Term 2 exam.

    • Quadratic equation solving by square method
    • Sum of the nth term of A.P.

    Unit-II GEOMETRY:

    • Construction of tangents on circle
    • Theorems of major topics of geometry

    Unit-III TRIGONOMETRY:

    • Height and distance problems

    Unit-IV MENSURATION:

    • Surface areas
    • Volume of solids
    • Frustum of cone

    Unit-V STATISTICS & PROBABILITY:

    Important Questions for the Class 10 Term 2 Mathematics Preparations

    Some important questions for the Class 10 Term 2 Mathematics preparations are as follows

    • Find the sum of the roots of the quadratic equation 3×2-9x +5=0.
    • Which term of AP 8,14,20,26…will be 72 more than its 41st term?
    • Prove that the tangents drawn at the endpoints of the diameter of a circle are parallel.
    • A tree breaks a pattern due to a storm, and the broken part bends so that the top of the tree touches the ground making an angle of 30° with it. The distance between the foot of the tree to the point where the top touches the ground is 8m. Find the height of the tree.
    • A quadrilateral ABCD is drawn to circumscribe a circle. Prove that AB + CD = AD + BC.
    • Construct a triangle with sides of 5 cm, 6 cm, and 7 cm, and then another triangle whose sides are 7/5 of the corresponding sides of the first triangle.
    • A cubical ice cream brick of edge 22 cm is to be distributed among some children by filling ice cream cones of a radius of 2 cm and a height of 7 cm up to its brim. How many children will get the ice cream cones? 
    • Two cubes each of volume 64 cm3 are joined end to end. Find the surface area of the resulting cuboid.
    • While checking the value of 20 observations, 125 was wrongly noted as 25 while calculating the mean, and then the mean was 60. Find the correct mean.
    • An aircraft has 120 passenger seats. The number of seats occupied during 100 flights is given in the following table:
