The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a national level entrance competitive examination conducted once every year for admission to MBBS and other medical and paramedical courses. It is the only medical entrance test for admission to all the medical schools across the country.

- The full form of NEET-UG is National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate level)
- NEET UG is a central level exam
- NEET UG is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA)
- It is the sole entrance test for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in India

- Around 539 colleges in India accept the score of the NEET-UG exam

- Age Criteria: Candidates must have completed 17 years at the time of admission or will complete that age on or before 31 December of the year of their admission
- Subjects needed: Candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects from a recognized board of India
- Marks required in 12th: The marks to be considered are aggregate only for PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)

Eligibility Criteria for NEET-UG 2022
- Nationality: The candidate needs to be a citizen of India. Foreign national candidates such as NRIs, PIOs, and OCIs can also apply.
- Candidates from Union territories of J&K and Ladakh are not eligible for 15% All India Quota seats as UT of J&K and Ladakh have opted out of the All India Scheme since its inception. If they claim eligibility, they must submit an online Self Declaration which will be generated and printed automatically along with a confirmation page for the record. They need to present the same during counseling.
- Number of attempts: There is no set limit on the number of attempts a student can make trying to qualify for this exam

NEET 2022 Paper pattern
- The paper is MCQ-based. There are 200 questions in total, out of which 180 questions are required to be attempted, 45 questions from Physics, 45 from Chemistry, and 90 from Biology

Medical Courses under NEET 2022
- MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery): MBBS in India is a highly coveted stream as it is one of the most respected professions. The students who get a chance to enter this profession are very lucky as they get the opportunity to influence peoples’ lives hugely. The total MBBS seats that NEET UG provides to aspirants are around 79248. That means around 79248 students are admitted to study MBBS courses in different government and private medical colleges every year. Out of these, around 41000 seats belong to government medical colleges. Of these 41000 seats, 1205 seats will get students admitted to AIIMS and 200 to JIPMER. The duration of the MBBS course is five years, and the fee is Rs. 3 LPA to Rs. 12 LPA. Because of the high fees in private medical colleges, candidates often look for government MBBS seats through NEET. The MBBS seats in government medical colleges are divided into AIQ (All India Quota) and state quota. From every government medical college, 15% of seats are reserved for AIQ. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts the counselling for these seats.
- BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery): The total number of BDS seats that NEET UG provides to candidates every year is 26949. By availing these seats, students can get admission to different government and private dental colleges. It is a four-year course, and the fee is Rs. 50000 PA to 12 LPA. BDS admissions in NEET are offered around multiple rounds of counselling and seat reservations.

- BHMS (Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
- BNYS (Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yoga Sciences)
- BUMS (Bachelor of Unani Medical and Surgery)
- BSMS (Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery)
All of these categories of courses have been assigned 52720 seats under NEET UG 2022. Many students who get lower ranks and qualify for these seats don’t take up these courses. The scope of Ayurveda and Naturopathy treatment is increasing day by day, and the professionals from these fields will be quite in demand in the coming years. Therefore, students should at least give a thought to taking up a career in these streams if they get a chance.
- BVSc and AH: Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry: The total seats for this course under NEET UG are around 525. Only government college seats are available in this course, as there are not many private veterinary colleges under NEET UG 2022. It is a five-year course, and the yearly fee is Rs. 10000 PA to 2 LPA.
- BPT (Bachelor of Physiotherapy): The total seats provided by NEET-UG 2022 for specialty are 67000/+. There is no fixed number of seats allocated for this course, though.
Apart from the medical courses, NEET UG also grants admission in some paramedical courses like B.Sc Nursing, B.Sc Optometry, B.Sc Agriculture, and B.Sc in Medical Record Technology. The duration of paramedical courses such as Bachelor of Physiotherapy or B.Sc Nursing is 4.5 years. All these course curricula include one year of internship, which is compulsory.
Tips for cracking NEET UG
- Know your syllabus well and stick to it. There is a lot to study for competitive exams in a limited amount of time. So, don’t focus on the parts that are not important. - Books to use for NEET 22: There are three categories of books available for NEET
- For any subject, be it Chemistry, Physics, or Biology, there are the NCERT Solutions textbooks. You should know the textbooks by heart. 80-85% of questions come from the NCERT book. Those will give you the most information which you can acquire and using that information, you can solve the MCQ-based questions.
- There are the MCQ books that contain multiple-choice questions and their explanations.
- And then there are the previous years’ question bank books which contain the last previous years’ question papers. Solving previous years’ question banks is as important as reading NCERT textbooks.
- Biology is the most important subject for NEET. It determines whether or not you get selected for the exam. Study NCERT Solutions for Class 11 Biology and NCERT Solutions for Class 12 Biology multiple times. Chemistry and Physics determine your rank. - Start revision from day zero. Whatever you study during the week, review it on the weekends. Revise the important topics multiple times before the exam

- Study every day. Even if you have some plans, festivals, etc., study for some time
- Start studying early in the morning. Research has found that the best time to study is in the mornings. It is when your brain is the sharpest and your analytic capacities are at their peak.
