      • 4. What are SMART goals?

Students’ minds are filled with dreams and ambitions. It is necessary to motivate them further to achieve it. Simply thinking about it does not do any good; the students have to push themselves forward to make it come true. It involves years of hard work, patience and determination.

Moreover, the students need to make sure their pathway is pure and have set a realistic and achievable goal.

There are a few tips and tactics to help the students set their goals smartly. Let us see them one by one in this article.

    Strategic planning

Firstly, the students need to organise their thoughts. Organising what they need to study solves most of their issues. It has always been a dilemma for the students to decide which thing they need to do first. So, deciding everything before starting a schedule will help them greatly.

The students can start by analysing themselves by identifying their passion and interests. It will help them understand their strong areas. Along with that, the students should start exploring the options. They can use the internet to gather as much information as they want regarding different career paths in this world.

Smart work is always better than hard work, so planning is essential to make anything work. The students can start by making a timetable where they can list the topics or concepts they need to cover in a specified amount of time. It is important to separate the topics; one good way is by their difficulty levels.

    Set specific goals

Once the students are done organising their thoughts, the next major thing is to set specific tasks.

For example, if the students study mathematics, they can set targets like they need to finish completing that particular unit in the given time frame. They can practice the formulae and work out the problems. Likewise, they are allowed to do the same for other subjects. It will help students obtain maximum marks in their upcoming exams.

In addition to that, the students can do the same with other activities. For instance, they can go cycling or jogging every morning or perform various indoor and outdoor activities that they like to do in order to improve their health and fitness.

    Ask for help

On many occasions, the students will struggle to do everything independently. In such cases, they should not hesitate to gain help from elders, especially their mentors or parents. The student can seek help from anyone, especially with whom they feel more comfortable.

For instance, if a student wants to score good scores on the NEET exam but does not possess the capabilities to understand everything deeply, he can opt for private tutoring. Tuition centres are one of the greatest places where the students can go and clear their doubts.

Obtaining help from elders positively impacts the students and motivates them to score good grades. Apart from the learning perspective, they can also seek counsellors to solve their personal issues or if they want to improve their mental health.

    Pause and reassess

Working towards goals does not always mean just working endlessly. It will only affect them mentally and make them tired. Sometimes, all they need is breathing time, a break, or even a vacation. Breaks are inevitable in-between study sessions. There are enormous amounts of positive effects one can attain using break times. The students can either do what they like or just relax simply to utilise this period.

In addition to that, the students should also take necessary actions to review the work they have been doing this whole time. They can pause their work and start assessing themselves. They need to analyse and identify the errors in their learning methods. If the students do not find it effective, they should consider changing it.

Moreover, sometimes circumstances and situations change. These changes can affect the students. Hence, the students should ask themselves questions like “Is there any way I can change any part of my plan to improve my productivity?” or “Am I going on the right path” etc.

    Identify the obstacles

The next step students need to do is to determine what stands in their way of success. They need to identify the obstacles and try to remove those using appropriate techniques.

For instance, imagine a student that wants to improve his grade from B to A. No matter how hard he tries, he keeps getting B continuously. It is the point where he needs to re-evaluate himself and understand where he is making the mistakes and what things stop him. He needs to verify if he is doing all his homework with utmost dedication and mere determination. If something seems wrong, he must find a way to change it and improve himself by doing recreational activities.

    Progression over perfection

The students aim for progress rather than trying too hard to be perfect because improvement takes a considerable amount of time, and no one can gain perfect results immediately. It is a highly time-consuming process. There might be some flaws or delays while progressing. To be honest, it is not always possible to obtain perfection in everything they do. The students need to realize that and should not be depressed or stressed out if they find it hard.

Improvement is a gradual process, so patience is the key. Hence, concentrating on constant improvement motivates and encourages the students to achieve bigger heights. The students need to celebrate whenever they accomplish something, as it will help them greatly in boosting their morale and self-confidence.

    Take things lightly

The students should not be afraid of failure and take everything lightly. Being serious all the time will only harm their mental health. So, having a calm mind is essential to maintaining a peaceful life. The students can only perform well if their mind is peaceful. Moreover, there is a limit to seriousness; it would be better to stay inside that, most of the time.

In addition to that, taking vacations occasionally will help them relax their minds. It will also let them be free from all their commitments as students. Taking some time and space for themselves will play a key role in refreshing their minds and help them perform better under high-pressure circumstances.

    Mind-pleasing techniques

There are many types of activities one can do to please their minds. The most common ones are meditation and yoga. Yoga is an extremely effective method for boosting the focus and concentration levels of the students. So, they should consider doing yoga every day for some time. It will help the students stay calm and collected, especially while encountering rough times during their studies.

Likewise, meditation is also an excellent source of calmness. So, having a meditation schedule of at least 30 minutes a day will greatly help students concentrate better. It also improves the students’ memory by 20 to 25 %.

Moreover, for the students who have ADHD, it becomes hard for them to concentrate for a consistent amount of time. Hence, yoga and meditation help students maintain calmness and concentration by improving mental health.

    Healthy eating

Health and fitness play a vital role in helping students achieve their dreams. Consuming healthy meals will have a significant positive effect on the fitness of the students. Some of the healthy foods a student can take are fruits, vegetables, oatmeal, etc. It will provide them with a sufficient amount of nutrients and vitamins. Therefore having a conscious diet schedule is a must.

Furthermore, the intake of junk food and fast food should be strictly avoided because they are extremely unhealthy and will cause stomach aches and digestive problems. Hence, eating healthily and following a good diet routine will help the students greatly, who are working towards their end goals.

Physical health and mental health are equally important, so the students need to have consciousness of both.

    Importance of sleep

Sleep is inevitable for every person on this planet. According to scientists, everyone should get at least 7 hours of sleep daily. The students should go to bed before midnight and wake up early in the morning. On an important note, they should avoid smartphones right before their sleep as it will be harmful to their eyes.

Watching movies or TV series late at night is also not good for your health. In order to perform well in the examination, it is essential to be healthy. Sleeping plays a vital role in refreshing our minds and motivates us to study further.

In addition, studying early in the morning will have a huge impact; for example, one can study for 1 hour from 6 AM to 7 AM, and it will be more productive than studying for three or more hours at night. The students’ minds will be fresh during the morning, enabling them to possess more stamina and energy in their bodies.

    Conclusion

To achieve the goals, some measures need to be taken by the students. They should follow the ten tips mentioned above to build a strong foundation in their career, which will help them achieve their goals. These goals need to be realistic and doable.

Anyone can have dreams, but the important thing is to find a way to achieve them. The goals can be short-term and long-term. With utmost determination and dedication, any student can have the life of their dreams.

    FAQs about Tips for Students

    1. Why is it essential to have dreams and goals?

The main reason why students should have dreams in their life is that it helps them achieve what they want. Everyone should have a purpose in their life, and these goals act as a key to satisfying it. Life without any purpose would be bland and boring. Having goals is a motivation and inspiration; therefore, they are very important in our lives.

    2. What is a dream without a goal?

Simply speaking, a dream without a specified goal is just a wish. A wish is something that we only think of having but might never get it. If there is no physical progress in our lives, our dreams will only stay the same and will never come true. So, the most fundamental thing is to go forward and try it without fearing failure.

    3. What is the meaning of a goal in life?

Life goals can be determined as the desired set of states that one needs to obtain, avoid or maintain. While setting goals, we need to ensure that they are achievable and realistic. Otherwise, it will not work.

    4. What are SMART goals?

    SMART indicates:

    - Specific
    - Measurable
    - Achievable
    - Relevant
    - Time-bound

It is one of the most intelligent ways to accomplish a certain task in their lives. The students need to define these parameters to ensure if they are on the right path and whether they want to move forward with it. One main objective is that it has to be attainable within a specified time frame.
