This Olympic season, we saw some great performances from our country’s youth! Two of such inspiring performances were by Sakshi Malik and PV Sindhu. Let’s take some inspiration from their great stories of perseverance, dedication and success.
Sakshi Malik:
This 23 year old Indian freestyle wrestler stole our hearts by her amazing performance this year. She is the first Indian female wrestler to win a medal at the Olympics and the fourth female Olympic medallist from the country. At the 2016 summer Olympics, she won the bronze medal in the 58kg category making all Indians across the world extremely proud. At a young age, she got inspiration from her grandfather who was also a wrestler. She began training at the age of 12 and faced criticism from many for being involved in a sport which ‘wasn’t for women’. But this did not stop her, she kept fighting to make her dreams come true.

PV Sindhu:
While most of us are aware of her great performance at the Rio Olympics this year, we aren’t aware of the many other great things she has achieved at such a young age. At the age of 17, Sindhu came to international attention when she broke the top 20 at the BWF World Ranking in September 2012. In 2013, she made us proud by becoming the first ever Indian women’s singles player to win a medal at the Badminton World Championships. She also became the youngest recipient of Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honor, in March 2015. She is also now the first Indian shuttler who reached the final of the 2016 Olympics badminton event winning a silver medal in the women’s singles event of the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Take inspiration from these young achievers and always follow your dreams! If you are passionate about anything, make sure you go for it and fight through the obstacles.
