Do you falter while making decisions? As contradictory as it may sound, even really smart people with impeccable credentials and sound judgement are sometimes awful at making decisions. True, we all struggle while making decisions especially when it is about our career and even spend enormous amount of time and insurmountable energy in decision making. After all decisions pertaining to career are the most crucial ones in a student’s life. It cannot be denied that it is these decisions that determine a student’s future. And there is nothing more stressful than having to face the repercussions of a bad decision. Hence, it is imperative that you make sound decisions that lay groundwork for your future goals and a bright career ahead.

While most things may not really happen according to your whims and fancies, however keeping the below mentioned points in mind will definitely usher you into making meaningful and smart decisions for your career.

    1.  Indulge in a Little Introspection
In a fast moving world and extremely busy schedules, it is difficult to find the time to sit down and reflect. However, before you make that important decision, always put much thought into it. Figure out what you actually want to do in life, what you are passionate about, what are your interests, do you have the required aptitude, etc. No matter how cliché these questions may seem, they’ll help you examine your thoughts and gain a better insight that will help you make a sound decision for a better career.

    2. Think Ahead Think Smart
Nothing beats a proper planning. In order to make a smart decision, it is essential to plan ahead of time. As you know the world we live in is dynamic in nature. It is, thus, crucial to keep yourself updated with the industry demands. Look for courses or specialisations that would be booming in the years to come. By preparing yourself for the future, you can definitely gain an edge over others. This future planning will definitely assist you in making smart decisions for your career in the future.

    3. Do your Research
Before jumping onto things and thinking along the lines of what is readily available, research well. Go through the right resources, conduct a search on internet, find trusted reviews, gather actual facts, etc to make a smart decision. Doing a research not only helps look at everything from every angle but also helps in in-depth study. It also helps you stay updated and informed about the most in demand career options and keeps you ahead of others. Thus, indulge yourself in extensive research to make the best career decision.

    4. Take Assessment Tests
True, indecision stems from a variety of sources. Assessment tests, aptitude tests or Psychometric tests can come to your rescue by assessing your skills and aptitude. Aakash Institute conducts various assessment as well as psychometric tests that help measure and enhance your talent by the means of cutting edge technology and researched assessment tools. Taking such tests taps your true potential and helps you make smart decisions for a successful career ahead.

    5. Networking Helps
In order to make that crucial career decision of your life, it is essential to surround yourself with people who share similar drive and ambition. Networking is important as it helps you share your ideas and knowledge with a number of people and vice versa. It offers you opportunities to build connections and introduces you to prominent people. Connecting with your teachers, peers or alumni is good way to ask for suggestions, discuss your point of view, etc that will not only expand your knowledge but also allow you to see things from a different perspective and make a smart career decision.

    6. Weigh your options
Often we find ourselves settling for the obvious and limited career options that we have in front of us. Refrain from doing that! It’s advisable to consider all the possibilities carefully. Look seriously at all the possible options, understand your interests, weigh the various pros and cons before committing to an expensive and lengthy endeavour. Once you know your options, you’ll be able to decide what is best for you and make a smart career decision.

    7. Don’t Lose your focus
It’s true that sound and informed decisions lead to good choices in life. While others are still trying to figure out what’s happening and falling for old practices and blindly following the clichés, gain an edge over them by adopting a rational approach and staying clear-headed and focussed. Do not get bogged down by peer pressure or succumb to temptations. Keep the end goal in your mind and be confident of what you want to make a smart career move.

    8.  Avoid the haste
As Benjamin Franklin puts it, “Take time for all things: great haste makes great waste.” Before you make that important decision, make sense of what is happening, see it from all perspectives, view the shortcomings etc. Do not make any decision in haste. Haste will only cause you to make mistakes that you’ll repent later. Be patient as it gives you time to ponder over and analyse things that lead to a smart decision for a bright career ahead.

    9.  Trust yourself
Last but not the least, believe in yourself. Having faith in oneself can help make a smart decision. When you believe in yourself and your decisions, everything automatically falls into place. Adopt a positive attitude and be ready to receive more positivity. Trusting your choice lays the foundation for a successful career ahead.

Dear sir help me know what I can do? I passed my 12th in 2016 and after passing I decided to go for IIT JEE coaching. then I gave my first attempt in 2017 and even failed to qualify for the Advance test. Having a clear idea in mind to pursue engineering from a prestigious institute in my field of interest CSE (computer science Engineering ). I was completely depressed. then I again decided to make a 2nd attempt in 2018 for jee main. I don’t know sir why and how it all happened but I had given my jee main.I am not too sure again of getting good marks. I gave my 100 % but not sure of getting good rank to pursue my career as a CSE engineer. Sir help me to know my career options, please.

Hey , Loved all that you have shared. This was really very helpful.
In the gig economy, individuals are driven by their interests or to explore better opportunities and are changing careers more frequently. Furthermore given that 50% of current jobs may not be relevant in the next few years, several workers across industries will be required to undergo re-skilling. Career assessment and other career tools can be very useful to identify suitable career paths and deciding on future skills and knowledge to build. We at Tucareers.com is designed to help individuals across their lifetime to make such career transitions in the new machine age.
      Thanks for sharing.
