Regional Language Concerns Showcased by PIL
A PIL (Public Interest Litigation) was recently filed by the examination authority. It stated that the KVYP is a national-level fellowship exam, so it should be held in other regional languages as well. In addition to this, the PIL also claimed that holding a national-level exam only in Hindi, and the English language goes against federalism, creating disadvantages for students who speak their regional or native language.
Reason Behind Postponement of KVYP Exam
During the hearing of PILheld on Monday, a Madras HC Bench consisting of Justice M. Duraiaqamy, ND Chief Justice Sanjib Banarjee directed the Central Govt to consider multiple Indian Languages while conducting the exam. In response to this, the Central Government informed the court that there’s a scarcity of required workforce that speaks each native or regional language fluently, so reviewing answers in various languages will be a big task.
In response, the Madras High Court stated that just because there’s a scarcity of available staff members, a national shouldn’t be conducted in such a way that puts non-Hindi, and non-English speaking aspirants at disadvantage.
