The percentile gives an idea about the number of candidates who have scored either equal or lower marks than the topper. Steps to calculate JEE Mains 2022 Percentile
The following steps are required to be followed for calculating the percentile.
- Estimating the total number of students who have appeared in a particular session of JEE Mains exam
- Finding out the highest raw score of a candidate in that particular session.
- Estimating the number of candidates who have scored less than the candidate whose percentile must be calculated.
- It is necessary to calculate the percentile scores up to the 7th decimal place to reduce ties and inequality.
The raw scores in Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics can be denoted by M1, C1, and P1. Let the total raw score be denoted by T1.
Let T1P, C1P, P1P, and M1P denote the total percentile score, percentile score of Chemistry, percentile score for Physics, and percentile score of Mathematics.

The National Testing Agency will calculate the following percentiles for each candidate in a particular session given as follows :
I) Total percentile- (Number of students belonging to a session who have appeared for the JEE Mains and have a raw score equal to or less than the total raw score obtained by the topper)/ Total number of candidates who have attempted the exam in that session X 100
ii) Mathematics percentile- (Number of candidates who have appeared for the Mathematics exam from a session with a raw score less than or exactly equal to the student with the highest raw score in Mathematics)/ Total number of candidates who have appeared in that session X 100.
iii) Physics percentile- ( Number of students who have appeared in the Physics exam from a session with a raw score equal to or less than the P1 score )/ Total number of students who have appeared in that session X 100.
iv) Chemistry percentile- ( Number of students who have appeared in the Chemistry exam from a session with a raw score equal to or less than the student with the highest raw score in Chemistry )/ Total number of students who have appeared in that session X 100.
Suppose 30,000 candidates have appeared in the JEE Mains exam, and among them, a candidate has scored 340 out of 360. The number of students who have scored less than this candidate is 29,500. The percentile score is (29500/30,000) X 100.

- The raw score of the candidate- Raw score is the individual score of the candidate before the relative adjustment process. Suppose two or more students secure the same percentile scores in JEE Mains 2022; the National Testing Agency will apply the following rules to prepare the merit list of the candidates.
- Aspirants who have scored a high percentile in the Mathematics paper will be given the first preference.
- After applying the above, if there is still a tie between the candidates, the candidates who have secured a high percentile in the Physics exam will be prioritised.
- If the tie still exists, the candidate who scored a high percentile in the Chemistry exam shall be eligible for admission.
- If the tie persists after applying the above-mentioned rules, the candidate whose age is greater than the other candidates will be considered.
