Global Day of Parents 2022 is on Wednesday, 1 June 2022, to honour parents around the world. The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 1st June as the first-ever Global Day of Parents in the year 2012 to honour all parents around the world. It provides an opportunity to appreciate and encourage all parents in all parts of the world for their selfless commitment to children and their lifelong sacrifices towards nurturing this relationship. Being a parent is one of the most joyous experiences, but it’s definitely not a cakewalk. Instead, it is full of challenges, responsibilities, and commitment long before kids are in the womb.
Global Parents Day 2022 Theme
Global Parent Day 2022 has an international theme, “Family Awareness”. Being conscious of your own family, and looking for its emotional and physical well-being is essential. For all human beings, living in a family, being able to track and take care of every family member’s mental and physical health, and assisting one another through tough times is the basis of this year’s theme. The UN has planned multiple special announcements, proclamations, rallies, and social activities for parents and children. Additionally, it has organized programs and entertainment evenings for the communities.
Global Parents Day 2022 Aim
The major and basic purpose of Global Parents Day is to pay tribute to the parents for their priceless efforts for their children’s existence and survival and to accept the sacrifices and affections of parents towards children. Not only parents but grandparents and great-grandparents are also a part of Global Parents Day. Thus, Global Day of Parents urges everyone to show gratitude and respect to the elderly.
Global Parents’ Day History
During the 1980s, the United Nations started to focus on issues that were related to the family, and how the emotional- and mental well-being of a child branches out into other spheres of development on a large scale. On 9 December 1989, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution that announced the year 1994 as the International Year of the Family. In another resolution, 15 May 1993 was selected as the International Day of the Families every year. Further, it was realized how parents play an important role in families, and hence in 2012, the General Assembly dedicated the Global Day of Parents to appreciate all parents in a resolution A/RES/66/292. It was recognized that it’s the primary duty of parents to nurture and protect their children. For a balanced growth and development of the child, they should grow in a family environment of happiness, love, care, and understanding.
Global Parents’ Day Significance
The day aims to promote awareness of the importance of parenthood for positive development in children. Parents, children, teachers, families, and government organizations unitedly celebrate this day to promote effective parenting. Moreover, various campaigns and educational programs are widely conducted for parents to encourage peace and stability in nuclear families.
Across the planet, Global Parents’ Day is hosted on different dates. Nevertheless, the aim of the day remains unchanged, i.e. to ensure all parents get the love, respect, care, and appreciation they deserve. The day also pays tributes to those parents who lost their lives. However, in India, Global Parents’ Day is celebrated as National Parents’ Day and is celebrated on the 4th Sunday of every July annually. This year it will be organised on 25 July 2022.
How to Celebrate Global Parent’s Day?
Children can spend quality time with their parents across the globe to pay tribute to their parents. Here are some nice ways to celebrate Global Parents’ Day:
- Due respect to your parents and tell them you are grateful for them and everything they have done for you.
- Parents don’t ask for anything except your time. So, make sure to spend ample time with your parents, and those who are not living with their parents can visit them and cherish good times and memories.
- You can surprise your parents by planning an outdoor trip to a restaurant, garden, museum, pilgrim or any other place they like.
- Take them to some adventure sports.
- Organize a family picnic for them.
- Prepare a delicious dinner for them.
- Take them out for a movie.
- Gift them a gift voucher, sweets, flowers, chocolates, wristwatch, handbag, a collection of their favourite songs, cards, cake, etc.
- Clean your home and give them rest by doing household chores.
- Listen and understand their problems and try to make them stress-free.
- Look at the old family pictures and videos together.
Every day is parents’ day because a good parent never takes a leave, so only one day is not enough to celebrate all their sacrifices. Parenting might be difficult, but it is the most rewarding experience. Thank your parents on this parents’ day and tell them how much you love them and be their emotional strength.
Happy Global Parents Day 2022 to all the wonderful and strong parents out there!
