If we talk about board exams, they indeed send chills down every student’s spine. They are considered the toughest exams but play an important role in shaping a student’s career. So, you can’t afford to take these exams lightly and end up making silly mistakes that will affect your overall score.

Did you know? Despite being aware of the importance of CBSE Board exams, students tend to make a lot of mistakes and this has been witnessed by many examiners. So, we got in touch with them and made a list of common mistakes students make during board exams, and how you can avoid them by just being a little more attentive. Despite knowing the importance of the CBSE Board Exams, examiners have found that students make various silly mistakes in answer sheets which can be avoided if students are careful and attentive.

1) Not Using The 15 Mins For Reading

This is one of the most common mistakes Class 10 students make, not just in boards but during pre-boards as well. They don’t utilize the 15 mins time allotted to them by CBSE to read the question paper thoroughly. There’s a reason why this time is given but a lot of students just get anxious and directly start writing the answers, failing to effectively utilize this time. This leads to attempting the wrong set of questions or answering improperly. But the right way to utilize these 15 mins would be by analyzing the question paper, marking which questions to attempt first, and which ones to attempt at last.

2) Poor Time Management

Many students fail to manage time effectively while answering questions during their board exams. They either spend too much time answering a few questions, attempt questions they don’t know the answers to, or get tangled up in between because of stress and anxiety. The best way to manage time wisely is by attempting the lengthiest questions first, followed by medium level, and then the easiest ones. This way you will not only save time but even when you’re in a hurry, you will be able to attempt short questions easily. Also, if you don’t know the answer to a particular question, it’s better to leave it than beat around the bush.

3) Not Adding Pictorial/Diagrammatic Illustrations

Some questions in CBSE board exams indirectly or directly call for pictorial or graphic representation along with the answers, especially in science. If you ignore or forget to complement your answers with diagrams, then it may cause you a loss of marks. Also, don’t forget to label those diagrams correctly in a neat way as each label carries a mark.

4) Answering in Paragraphs

A lot of times when students write the answers without actually planning out their structure, they end up writing long paragraphs with no headlines, subheads, or bullets. Whereas this should be avoided at all costs, as it makes your answer appear too much lengthy and vague. You should always underline, bold, and highlight important terms, use adequate subheadings and bullet points. You can also use flowcharts and diagrams for explaining your answers. This will make your answers appear neater and help the examiner to check answers in a better way.

5) Not Revising The Answer Sheet Before Submitting

This is again one common thing that students do in their class 10 board exams. Some students keep writing till the last minute, hence they’re left with no time to recheck the answer sheet. Also, a lot of students are not in a habit of rechecking their answer sheets, so they directly hand over them to the invigilator the moment they’re done with the examination. As a result, some forget to write the correct roll no, some write different answers to different questions, and some do a lot of spelling and grammatical mistakes. They also lose the opportunity to correct their mistakes, but how you can avoid doing them is by taking 10-15 minutes only to revise your answer sheet. You can also revise your answers after completing one section if you want to save time.

We hope that the above points will help you in avoiding the common CBSE Board Exam mistakes so that you don’t lose any marks. You can share this article with your friends, cousins so that they don’t make the same mistakes. If you have any queries, you can drop them in the comment section, we will get back to you shortly.
