Parents also play a major role in students’ success while cracking PAN India-level exams like teachers and experts. They worry about your preparations, well-being, performance, and many other issues related to your test. You may not believe it, and sometimes they also face the same anxiety and stress that you are going through.

With the support of parents, a student can move toward his dream with confidence and put his complete focus on the goal. It is equally possible that a child may lose confidence if his parents have no support.

As a parent, this article will help you learn how you can help your children prepare for competitive exams.

The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2022 is a national-level entrance test conducted by National Test Agency (NTA). If you can crack this test, you can get admission to any UG Programmes in any Central University under the Ministry of Education (MoE).

As a parent, you can understand the pressure under which your kid is, from preparations to getting admission. But you can help your children to reduce it in some way. Here are some ways that can tell you how you can help your kids in preparing for the CUET 2022 exam.

10 Ways Parents Help Their Children With CUET 2022 Preparations

The following 10 ways will help you to know how can you as a parent can involve in your child’s study process and help them prepare better for the competitive exam:

    • Give ample time to your kids

The post and pre-period of the examination is the most crucial and stressful time for the students. Many students do not like to share their worries with others and keep them to themselves. Hence, it is necessary to identify their stress and help them get rid of it. As a parent, you need to make sure that they should receive your constant support and positivity that lets them feel loved and cherished. It will subsequently help them concentrate more on the preparations and understand how much you value their hard work.

    • Erase the exam fear from them

Lakhs of students attempt the CUET exam every year. It creates fear in many aspirants’ minds. This fear stays in the depth of the child’s mind and increases their anxiety levels for them. Being a parent, it is your moral duty to remove this fear from your child’s mind and help him with his performance. You need to communicate with your child properly and try to remove this fear for him. Ensure your child and tell him that exams are important, but they are not everything in life. Comfort them from time to time and let them know that you are backing them.

    • Stop comparing them with others

Often parents, whether intentionally or unintentionally, compare their children with others and cannot see that such comparison will harm the child’s emotions. Do not compare your children with other wards in any way. They will get demotivated by your behaviour. Instead of this, motivate your child for their achievements and performance. Tell them that what they are doing is the best. Try to point out those places where they can do better than others. It is harmful to children to stir their emotions as they are under a lot of pressure.

    • Learn not to pressurize them

As you already know, CUET is a national-level exam, and lakhs of candidates participate. So you can understand the pressure under which your kid is in his present state. It might break if you constantly nag him for his preparations and practice. Pressurising your kid at this juncture will lead to mental distress. As a parent, you need to be calm and composed and think about the ways for your kids to help them get motivated. If your kid cannot concentrate on his studies, try to understand the reason instead of pressuring him.

    • Provide motivation and encouragement

Providing motivation and encouragement from time to time to your children during CUCET preparations is very beneficial for them. Research has proved that parental pressure increases students’ anxiety levels. Therefore, if you wish your children to perform excellently in this competitive exam, you have to learn ways that motivate them appropriately. You can play a very important role in encouraging them. You can tell kids how well they are doing, and they should keep going. Let them memorise their achievements in the past and encourage them to do the same.

    • Help in planning strategies with them

As the CUCET Syllabus is vast, your kids may miss out on some important topics. As a parent, you can help them prepare strategies or timetables to help them with their preparations. But, if they have already prepared ones, then do not pressurise them to change with yours. Instead, you can suggest a few changes if they think so. Help them make a schedule that can provide them with enough time for both studies and rest. Remember not to force your child to follow any such schedule that let him feel uncomfortable.

    • Keep an eye on their physical and mental health

Stress could put a toll on the student’s mental and physical health. And at this time, a student must be in his best state of health and mind. As a parent, you have to keep an eye on your child’s mental and physical health and take care of him in any possible way. Let them eat only healthy food and check whether they are eating food properly or not. Keep notice of their sleeping schedule also. A good night of sleep is also needed for the child’s health. Check it, and if they are missing it, help them.

    • Identify and manage distractions away from your child

Every student has some hobbies and obsessions. These obsessions may become negative things during this period and affect their performance. First, you need to identify your kids’ good and bad hobbies and the things that are distracting your kids from preparing for the examination. Solve all these bad hobbies and distractions effectively for them. Do not try to remove these things from your child’s life completely. After all, these are their likes and in some way help them in relaxing out.

    • Arrange experts and best tutors for them

There may be a lot of questions that your children are not able to answer properly. If you can help them with those problems, it is good, but if not, help them meet some experts or best tutors. They will help your children understand their problems and their solutions. Experts will also help them with questions like the best books for CUET preparations, important topics for the exam, important tips and tricks for the preparations, the best coaching institutes, etc.

    • Listen to them after exams

The period after the exam is as crucial for students as before the exam. After the exam, every student needs someone to whom they can share their feelings, anxiety, fear, or performance in the exam. Be your child’s someone at this time and listen patiently to their side story. Give them their time to discuss things about their paper. And remember not to pass any judgments. Try not to point out the mistakes they have committed. It is useless for you to comment on these things now, as the exam has been done, and it will only let your child feel demotivated.

    Conclusion

The role of parents in a child’s life is not only to give them birth, food, or complete all their necessities but also to be the mentor that can guide them in their most needed steps. Try to become their motivator and motivate them when they need you, be it during their exam time or be in their decision-making time.

You need to help them create a base that teaches them self-motivation and self-reliance skills. In this way, your child may be able to handle or face more challenges and achieve some milestones in the future.

We hope this article has guided you in how you are looking to help your child.

    CUET FAQs

    1. Is it good to provide kids with some space while preparing for CUET?

Yes, it will be a good choice for you as a parent to give them some space. Your kids are under a lot of pressure because of CUET exam preparations. And, if you stand on them all the time, it will only irritate them and let them lose concentration. So it is very important to give them some space as it will help them. Nagging them constantly for their studies with no regard for their rest and sleep will harm their mental and physical health. Therefore, try not to be with them all the time.

    2. We are working parents, and it is difficult for us to manage time from our schedule for our kids. How should we handle this problem?

As a working parent, you understand the importance of time more than others. To manage time from your schedule, you can take technology’s help. You can video call in-between your break time to your child and check how he's doing and what he is doing. You also have to set your priorities at work and home. And try to shorten your to-do list. Do not bring your work home. In this way, you will be able to manage some time for your kids at home. Try to do some outdoor picnic activities with your kids when you have holidays. These will remove the barrier between you and your kids. In these simple ways, you will be able to manage some time for your kids.

    3. Our kid wants to follow his wish, but we want him to choose a better future path. What should we do in such a situation?

Every parent thinks for the betterment of their child and child’s future. But, it is equally important to include your child’s wish. Whether they want to follow the path you have selected for them or not should be decided by them. So ask them if they want to attempt the exam or career you have selected for them before forcing it on them. You need to understand that your kid is already facing a lot of pressure in his life. You increase his burden by pressuring him with your wishes and making him emotionally unstable. Therefore, instead of forcing him, tell them that you are with him in his every decision.
