The next couple of weeks will bring students back to school. This time is bitter for many. There is an anxiety of classes and homework balanced with the enthusiasm of a fresh start. What if you could keep that “fresh start” feeling all semester long?

Here are the top 10 ways to keep your enthusiasm high after returning to school:

1. Get your books early

One of the most hectic times of school days is that crazy days in the bookstore before the semester starts. Get your books early. If your professors haven’t posted the books online, call the bookstore and see if they have a list. If the bookstore is not familiar with the books ask your professor to let you know the names so that you can start with the preparation early.

2. Review before class starts

Review is one of the best weapons against challenging exams. When you have your books early, spend a few hours reading and reviewing through each one. Familiarize yourself with the table of contents, summaries, bolded text, etc.

3. Do not change your diet

A change in your diet can change your concentration, energy level and ability to start.

4. Keep your main goal in Mind

Before you can get anywhere, you need to know beforehand where you want to go. Choose before the semester starts what grades you want and write it down. By putting it in writing, you are setting an agreement with yourself and all you need to ensure is not to break this agreement.

5. Decide why you want A’s in your class

Write down a list of reasons why you want to be a good student and hang it somewhere around you. When the going gets tough and you don’t feel like studying or going to class, review this list. These reasons will keep your enthusiasm high.

6. Follow a strict exercise routine

Stick to an exercise routine for increased self-esteem, concentration and enthusiasm for learning

7. Sit in the front row

Studies show that sitting in the front row will certainly improve your grades as you hear better and have more interaction with the professors and there is no possible way to doze if you are in the front row.

8. Reward yourself after small accomplishments

When you get an assignment or test, decide on a reward right then and there for completing it successfully. The rewards can include many things such as a new video game, a toy, a tee shirt, etc. Pick up something just for you and do not buy it until you finish your assignment. This will help you to complete your task successfully.

9. Study at the same time every day

The human brain functions better at different times. For some studying early in the morning is most suitable while for some studying at night is the best choice. Find out the best time for you and make a pact that you’ll study at that time every day. This really works because you will be in your zone naturally and you will be developing a habit of high quality study at that time of the day.

10. Get enough sleep

Staying up till late, goofing off or drinking might be fun at the time, but leads to excessive tiredness during classes. It’s tough to be enthusiastic if you are dead tired. So pick up a time for fun and then stick to it.
