    National Standard Examination in Junior Science (NSEJS) is conducted by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT). National Standard Examination (NSE) conducted by IAPT in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy, and Junior Science is the first stage for the international Olympiad. It aims to find and nurture young students who have high aptitude in Science. This IAPT-organized exam is the entry test for International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO). It is for students studying in Class VIII, IX & X (as per age criteria) and is conducted every year in the month of November.

    What it Assesses?

    This national-level examination is designed to assess conceptual understanding, logical reasoning, laboratory skills, and above all, the ability to apply problem-solving skills to novel situations. Training is included in the third stage of the programme and the first two stages do not necessarily require any specialized training outside the regular school system.

    NSEJS: Important Details

    The below table mentions the important dates related to the National Standard Examination in Junior Science:

    NSEJS Paper Analysis

    NSEJS 2022 Question Paper Analysis gives a detailed idea of the difficulty level faced by the students who appeared for the exam. The NSEJS 2022 question paper help students study strategically for their upcoming exams and provide a proper idea of the important concepts and the trends of the previous years’ papers. As per our expert faculties, the question paper had 13 easy questions, 29 medium questions, and 18 difficult questions overall. Read further to get a detailed analysis of the paper.

    Subject-Wise Paper Analysis

    Physics

    • Physics had 25% Easy, 50% Moderate, and 25% Difficult questions
    • Around 70% paper was from the syllabus of classes IX and X while 30% paper was from extended boundaries of Classes IX & X
    • Both theoretical and numerical type questions were included
    • Two questions were asked from the topic ‘‘Error analysis’’, which has not been asked previously
    • Overall, the difficulty level of the Physics section was the same as that of last year’s paper (IOQJS)

    Chemistry

      • In comparison to the previous years, the Chemistry section was a little unanticipated as it carried a significant number of questions from Inorganic and Organic Chemistry, besides questions based on Physical Chemistry
      • Almost 60% of the paper was from extended boundaries of topics covered in Class IX & X
      • 15% questions were Easy, 40% Moderate and 45% Difficult
      • Both theoretical and numerical type questions were included
      • Overall, students found the chemistry section a bit challenging

     Biology

      • The biology section was mainly Easy to Moderate in difficulty level
      • 50% of questions were Easy, 30% Moderate and 20% Difficult
      • Questions were asked mostly from the syllabus of class IX and X
      • Most questions were direct and easy to attempt. Some analytical-type questions were also included, mainly from Chapters ‘Life Processes’ and ‘Diversity in Living Organisms
      • Overall, the Biology section was easier than last year’s paper (IOQJS)

    All in all, the overall difficulty level of the paper ranged from moderate to difficult level. Regular practice and solving several previous year’s question papers would be of great help in scoring well on such a paper.

    2. Will marks be deducted for incorrect answers in the NSEJS?

    The National Standard Examination in Junior Science is a total of 240 marks and for every wrong answer, one mark will be deducted from the total marks, and 3 marks will be credited for the right answer.

    3. Is NSEJS easy?

    NSEJS is one of the toughest Junior science olympiads for class 9 and 10th students. But with proper hard work and the right preparation strategy, nothing is impossible.

    4. Is NSEJS an MCQ?

    Subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology will have a total of 60 Multiple-choice Questions (MCQs) in the exam.

    5. Is NCERT enough for NSEJS?

    For the National Standard Examination in Junior Science (NSEJS), students can follow the NCERT Syllabus for Class 10 for Science and Mathematics.
