For Ekagrah, success in JEE Advanced was not built on overnight sacrifices or sudden changes. It was the result of a gradual shift in priorities. Activities that once occupied a significant part of his time slowly gave way to his academic ambitions as the demands of competitive preparation increased.
One of the biggest changes during his preparation journey was stepping away from hobbies he genuinely enjoyed. A passionate guitar player and painting enthusiast, Ekagrah found himself spending less time on these activities as his focus shifted towards JEE preparation.

“I gave up my guitar to prepare for the IIT JEE, and now that I’ve cracked it, I’m back at it,” he shared.
According to Ekagrah, leaving behind his hobbies was never a conscious decision made in a single moment. As studies became more demanding, the time available for music and painting naturally reduced.
Today, with AIR 42 in JEE Advanced, he looks back at those sacrifices with satisfaction.
Two Years Away From Home
A significant part of Ekagrah’s preparation journey was spent living in a hostel. Like many students preparing for highly competitive examinations, he experienced the challenges that come with staying away from family while managing academic pressure.
Despite the distance, his family remained closely involved throughout his preparation. Regular visits from his parents provided emotional support and helped him maintain balance during difficult phases.
During his two-year preparation journey, Ekagrah stayed in a hostel while focusing entirely on his studies. He credits his family for helping him stay motivated and emotionally strong throughout this period.
“My parents were very supportive. They often came to see me. It helped reduce my stress. Meeting family members made me feel good. Just because I was in the hostel didn’t mean we grew apart.”
His sister, Aushka Agarwal, understood these challenges better than most. Having experienced hostel life herself and gone through the rigours of medical entrance preparation, she could relate closely to what her brother was facing.
“I could understand that feeling because I also lived in a hostel for about a year. So I know the feeling of homesickness and the pressure from your peers, as well as the expectations you have from yourself,” she said.
A Family That Understood the Journey
Ekagrah’s family had firsthand experience of competitive examination preparation. His sister had successfully cleared NEET after her own demanding preparation phase. Her experience helped the family understand the emotional and academic challenges associated with highly competitive entrance examinations.
According to Ekagrah, having someone at home who had already gone through a similar journey made a difference.
Even though she was a dropper, his sister remained a source of encouragement and perspective. Her experience gave her a deep understanding of the effort, discipline, and perseverance required to succeed in national-level entrance examinations.
His mother, Dr. Meenu Agarwal, recalls that the decision to pursue IIT was never imposed on him. Instead, it was a goal the family and Ekagrah embraced together.
“It was our mutual decision that he wanted to go to IIT. Everybody was totally sure he would do it,” she said.
The confidence his family placed in him became another source of motivation during his preparation.
A Proud Moment for the Family
The declaration of the JEE Advanced results marked the culmination of years of effort, sacrifice, and unwavering support from family members.
For his father, Rahul Agarwal, the achievement carries a special significance.
“Definitely, it’s a proud moment for me and for my whole family that he’s going to IIT. I pass by IIT Delhi every day, and it feels like getting in there is a dream for most people. Very few get the chance to go in. Maybe now we’re one of those few who can confidently say we’ve made it into that IIT.”
His mother described the result as an emotional moment for the entire family.
“His result has come. So I’m feeling really good, really proud, and there’s also this emotional vibe going on because the kid’s hard work paid off.”
His father’s pride was equally evident.
“I often feel this way when I hear things about my kids. Maybe that’s what makes me feel special compared to others.”
Looking Beyond the Next Milestone
While securing AIR 42 in JEE Advanced is a remarkable achievement, Ekagrah views it as one milestone in a much longer journey.
For him, success is not a final destination but a process of continuously setting new goals and working towards them.
“What I thought of as a goal is now achieved, but surely the next goal is coming up, and we’ll focus on that. So this is like a continuous journey. A process is to have something to do in life.”
His story reflects the realities of competitive exam preparation: gradual sacrifices, sustained effort, emotional resilience, and the support of family. From putting aside his guitar and paintings to spending two years in a hostel pursuing a dream, Ekagrah Agarwal’s journey demonstrates how consistent focus and determination can turn aspirations into achievements.
Now, with AIR 42 in JEE Advanced 2026, he prepares for the next chapter, carrying forward the same discipline and purpose that helped him reach one of the country’s most prestigious academic milestones.
