The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) is a methodology that is adopted by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to rank institutions of higher education in India. The NIRF Rankings are released under various categories, including, Engineering, Medical, Pharmacy, Management, Overall, Research, etc. The complete rankings for all top institutes and colleges can be found on the official website of NIRF – nirfindia.org. Recently, the NIRF has released the rankings for 2023 which is provided here on this page.
What is NIRF?
National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) is a unique approach brought in by the Ministry of Human Resource & Development in 2015 with an idea to encourage excellence and rank institutions based on certain standard criteria across the country. NIRF lists out the best institutions across different categories – overall national ranking, universities, engineering, college, medical, management, pharmacy, law, architecture, dental, and research. It works as an annual report card that assesses the performance of higher education institutions across different categories.

NIRF was approved by the Minister of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and was launched on 29th September 2015. This approach outlines a methodology to rank institutes all across the country. Multiple parameters will be considered for ranking various universities and institutions.
