How Was the Result Declared So Quickly?
NTA re-engineered its process this year, running several stages in parallel rather than one after another, and de-linking the OMR sheet challenge from the answer key release. The full timeline:
- 25–28 June 2026: Provisional answer key published and challenge window open
- 13–15 July 2026: Scanned OMR sheets and recorded responses shown to candidates
- 16 July 2026: Final answer key published and result declared — on the same day
Tie-Breaking Criteria for All India Rank
Where two or more candidates score the same total marks, NTA applies the following order:
- Higher marks in Biology (Botany + Zoology)
- Higher marks in Chemistry
- Higher marks in Physics
- Fewer incorrect attempts relative to correct answers in Physics
- If still tied, resolution through a random process overseen by an independent expert committee
What’s Next: Counselling Process
NTA’s role ends with declaring the result, issuing the All India Rank, and publishing merit and category lists. Counselling is NOT conducted by NTA.
- All India Quota (MBBS/BDS) counselling: Conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) — mcc.nic.in
- State Quota counselling: Conducted by respective State counselling authorities
- BAMS/BUMS/BSMS/BHMS (AYUSH) All India Quota counselling: Conducted by AACCC
