Factors That are Expected to Influence NEET Cut-Off Marks
Once we know the factors that are expected to predict the cut-off marks for NEET exam, it will be easier for us to predict the cut-off marks for this session. The following factors will influence NEET cut-off score:
- The difficulty level of the paper: NEET 2020 exam paper was considered comparatively easier than the NEET 2021 exam paper, but the analysis of the cut-off marks of the two years made us realise that the difficulty level of the paper does not affect the cut-off to a substantial extent. Whether the exam paper is easy or hard, the ranks don’t budge much.
- The number of students appearing: Previous year, 16 lakh students appeared in the NEET 2021 exam. This year the number of students appearing in the exam will be more or less the same. Therefore, this factor will not significantly impact the cut-off marks.
- The number of seats: According to our government’s decision, the number of seats in government medical colleges is expected to increase this year, the reason being the impediments in the education of Indian medical students in foreign countries like China and Ukraine. The government is trying to accommodate these students in Indian medical colleges. The government of India is currently putting a lot of effort into increasing the number of medical colleges in the country and increasing the seats in the existing medical colleges. It is, therefore, a golden opportunity for you to take advantage of this by working hard and securing your seat in a government medical college.
- The number of colleges: Owing to the return of Indian medical students from the war-hit Ukraine, new medical colleges are expected to be opened in India in the coming years. Therefore, the cut-off of the NEET results will decrease.
- Fee reduction in private medical colleges: This year, the government has directed all the private medical colleges to reduce the fee of 50% of their seats and bring the fee of those seats at par with the fee structure in government medical colleges. When this rule gets implemented, few students who secure the ranks for entering into government medical colleges will now opt for these seats in the private medical colleges leaving the government medical college seats vacant. This will decrease the cut-off and benefit the students at the end of the day. It is the time to work hard and utilise these opportunities to your advantage.

NEET 2020 and 2021 Cut-Off Analysis
Category | NEET 2020 | NEET 2021 |
General | 15038 | 19207 |
OBC | 15024 | 19232 |
EWS | 15004 | 19594 |
- NEET 2020 exam paper was comparatively easier than NEET 2021 paper, but as far as the cut-off is concerned, there was not much difference in the cut-off marks of the result of the two years.
- The cut-off marks for the 2020 result were around 15,000 marks, and the cut-off marks for the 2021 result were nearly 20,000. That means that there is a 5,000 marks difference in the cut-off marks between the two years. In terms of marks, it will be equal to a ten marks difference.
- The differences in the cut-off were not because of the exam factor. Rather, because of an increase in the medical seats, the All India Quota went from two rounds to four rounds (the seat reversal that used to happen earlier did not happen in 2021).
Category | NEET 2020 | NEET 2021 |
SC | 81121 | 99542 |
