Recently in a statement by the Karnataka Government, it was announced that from next year, the Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) admission test would be combined with the Common Entrance Test (CET) would be offered at the National Level. The criteria for admission would be based on the ranking of the students secure in the merged CET. Seat sharing will remain as it is now.
The higher education department also restricted the fee hike in several private engineering colleges to up to 10% as opposed to the 25% demanded by the colleges. It is also agreed that no other fees except a 10% hike on the existing fee. The fee hike is applicable to only those candidates who have been allotted government seats in private engineering colleges.

COMEDK is a consortium set up by the Karnataka Professional Colleges Foundation to provide a reliable, impartial, and effective admission process. Almost 16 medical, 24 dental, and 190 engineering colleges come under the COMEDK.
