January 2021 will have something good in stores for the students of the vernacular medium who wish to give a shot to the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE). As per the authorities, the JEE Main will be conducted in 11 regional languages from the said year.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) is all on it under the directions of the Ministry of Human Resource and Development. The Joint Entrance Exam, 2021 onwards will be offered in at least 11 regional languages including Bengali, Assamese, English, Gujarati, Kannada, Hindi, Marathi, Odiya, Urdu, Tamil and Telugu.
At present, the national level competitive exam for admission to undergraduate engineering and architecture courses is offered in English, Hindi and Gujarati. Needless to put forward, the mentioned test is also the foundation test for JEE (Advanced) Aspirants.
On the fact that the mentioned changes could not be implemented from the coming year itself, a senior official stated, “All the languages cannot be offered in such a short time as the registration and all logistics have already been scheduled for the 2020 exams. Moreover, it takes time for translation and no student should be at any disadvantage due to a hurried work. This will be implemented from the January 2021 exams.”
The above pattern offering to write the exam in different languages will be a huge relief to students who want to continue their schooling in their mother tongue rather than needing to shift to English and Hindi Medium at a later schooling stage.
There are also strong indications that MHRD has asked NTA to explore possibilities to offer JEE and other prominent competitive exams in as many languages as possible.
