    The NEET eligibility requirements 2023 are a collection of factors that students must meet before enrolling for the entrance exam. The NEET 2023 eligibility requirements define the rules and standards for the qualifying test, the pass percentage essential for the NEET exam, nationality, the maximum age to apply, the maximum number of tries, and more.

    Students are recommended to review the eligibility requirements before the start of NEET registrations in 2023 to determine if they are eligible or not.     NEET 2023: Applicants Eligible for Exam

    • Indian citizens, Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs),  Foreign citizens, Non-resident Indians (NRIs) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) are all eligible to sit for the NEET 2023 test.
    • Students who successfully register between the required dates and meet the NEET eligibility requirements are eligible.
    • Clearing the NEET 2023 examination is essential for students who wish to take admission and study medical courses. 
    • NEET is now even required for students who seek to study medicine overseas but return to India for practice.

    NEET 2023 Qualifying Exam

    The applicant must have a 10+2 or equivalent certificate from a recognised board, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core courses.
    Applicants with a Class 12 or equivalent are also able to apply for NEET.
    NEET 2023 Minimum Age Requirement Applicants must be 17 years old as of December 31, 2023.
    Maximum Age Restrictions* There is no upper age restriction until the Supreme Court rules on it.





    Qualifying Scores

    The class 12 percentile necessary for the NEET 2023 test is different for each category and is shown below. NEET eligibility criteria in class 12 are simply aggregate marks for PCB disciplines.
    GENERAL – 50%
    OBC/SC/ST – 40%
    PWD – 45%
    What are the Maximum Attempts for the NEET exam? The applicants’ maximum number of attempts is unrestricted.
    Nationality Applicants who are Indian nationals, Foreign Nationals, NRIs, OCIs or PIOs are eligible to apply.

    NEET Eligibility Criteria 2023 – Understand the Qualifying Codes

    Applicants will be requested to pick the NEET 2023 qualification codes for the qualifying examination when finishing out the application form. Applicants can find details about the NEET qualification codes here.

    Code 01: Students who will take their Class 12 board exam in 2023 and are awaiting their board results must select this code. However, such students must have completed their class 12 as indicated by the criteria until admission. Otherwise, they will be disqualified.

    Code 02: Students must pick this code if they are studying from the Indian School Certificate Test (ISCE) or the higher/senior secondary examination which is comparable to the Class 12 examination and follows after 12 years of study.

    As per the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), the last two years of this program must include science courses such as physics, chemistry, biology/biotechnology, mathematics, and any other elective disciplines with English as a core subject. Students who completed Class 12 in 2021 or earlier and have not followed any further study after Class 12 must select this code.

    Code 03: This code is for candidates who have successfully finished their Intermediate/Pre-degree Examination in Science at an Indian University/Board or other recognised authority, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as compulsory subjects. A practical assessment in science disciplines should be included in the course. Students who have completed a state board’s class 12 or equivalent qualifying examination must choose this code.

    Code 04: Applicants who have passed a Pre-professional/Pre-medical Examination after completing either the Higher Secondary Examination or the Pre-University or an equivalent qualification with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English must apply using this code. Practical assessments in these topics and English as a compulsory subject will be included in the Pre-professional/Pre-medical examination.

    Code 05: Students must pick this code if they study a three-year degree programme at a well recognized university with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology as necessary topics and have passed the first year including practical examinations in these areas. Students should remember that the qualifying test here must be a university examination. They must have cleared the previous qualifying exam, 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as a core course.

    Code 06: Students who have passed the BSc Examination with an Indian university with at least two of these subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology), or Biotechnology must select this code throughout the application process. They must also have cleared the previous qualifying test (10+2) with English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

    Code 07: Students who have passed some other examination that is found to be equitable to the Intermediate Science Examination of a recognised Indian University/Board in scope and standard (Last two years of 10+2 study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology; that also shall include practical assessment in these subjects) must select this code. Applicants who have cleared the qualifying examination in a foreign country must additionally include this code.

    The biggest worry of any student about eligibility for the medical entrance test is the NEET age restriction. To appear for NEET 2023, applicants must be 17 years old either at the time of admission or on or before December 31, 2023.

    The decision to raise the maximum age limit for NEET 2023 has been brought before the Supreme Court. Even though the court’s decision is pending, applicants can take the exam and be accepted.

    NEET 2023: Minimum Qualifying Marks

    • Students should have passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English individually in their 10+2 or equivalent qualifying examination.
    • Students from the unreserved category must have received a minimum of 50% in Physics, Biology/Biotechnology, and Chemistry in their Class 12 or HSC test.
    • Students from Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes or Other Backward Classes (OBC) must have obtained a minimum of 40% in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology in the qualifying examination.
    • An applicant with locomotor disability of the lower limbs must have obtained a minimum of 45 percent for General-PH and 40 percent for SC-PH/ST-PH/OBC-PH in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology in aggregate.

    Authorities eliminated the limitations on the number of NEET attempts based on modifications to the NEET qualifying criteria in 2018. As a result, there is no maximum limit to the number of NEET 2023 tries. As a result, applicants will take the NEET test as many times as they want as long as they are eligible.

    Yes, individuals who have taken a gap year would be eligible for NEET 2023 examination. Previously, MCI amended the "Regulations on Graduate Medical Education, 1997" to specify that a student has to complete two years of continuous study to be eligible to take NEET. However, the Delhi High Court overturned this modification, and students with gap years can now apply for NEET 2023. The current NEET information pamphlet confirms this as well.
