NEET-UG 2022 adheres to a reservation strategy that allocates a certain number of seats to different castes. Furthermore, it claims that all admissions to BDS or MBBS courses within the corresponding categories would depend on NEET scores (UG). So, if you are planning to sit for the NEET examination, you must fill out the application form with correct category information to be considered for the reservation advantages.
Every year, the All India Rank establishes a NEET (UG) Merit List based on the NTA reservation policy. If your name comes up on the merit list, you will be admitted to BDS or MBBS courses directly and attain the reservation benefits.
‘But what are the chances of getting the reservation advantages? Which category has the most seats?’ If you have these questions in mind, the following guide will answer them all. Keep reading, and you will be able to determine your chances of getting into your preferred course by the end of the blog.
What Is The All India Quota (AIQ)?
Now let’s begin with the definition of All India Quota (AIQ). All India Quota indicates that colleges in a state registered with MCI (Medical Council of India) must set aside 15% of their total seats for applicants who apply through AIQ. Students are free to use AIQ (apart from J&K candidates), as state residence is unnecessary.
The AIQ system was established in 1986 on the orders of the Supreme Court to allow learners from any state with domicile-free, merit-based possibilities to study in an excellent medical college in another state.
For example, a student from Uttar Pradesh may get admission to a state government medical institution in West Bengal if they achieve a high ranking on the national selection list. However, if their AIQ score isn’t high enough, they might get into the home state through the state quota.
Allotment Of Seats Under All India Quota
According to the Central Educational Institutions Act, 2006, 15% of seats in Central Educational Institutions are reserved for SC candidates, 7.5 per cent for ST candidates, and 27 per cent for OBC students solely. |
Reservation Criteria For 15% AIQ On NEET
According to the most recent update in the NEET reservation criteria, NTA will offer 27 percent of seats to OBCs and 10% to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS). All India Quota (AIQ) seats will account for 15% of total seats across all government MBBS or BDS colleges. NEET-UG Eligibility criteria will allocate seats under the 15% AIQ scheme.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had already allotted NEET reservations at 7.5 percent for ST categories and 15% for SC. The 27 per cent OBC reservation for NEET admissions was only imposed in Central universities. However, it was not applied to AIQ seats at state-run MBBS and BDS colleges.
In the AIQ plan, the Indian government has decided to grant 27 percent reservation for OBCs, 10% for EWS and 15% AIQ. Under the AIQ program, OBC and EWS kids would be allowed to enrol.
NEET Reservation Criteria For Financially Weaker Section
From the year 2019, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has introduced an EWS quota in NEET-UG admissions. This quota reserves 10% of seats in government medical institutions for individuals from financially weaker backgrounds. The following are the distinguishing characteristics of the EWS category in the NEET reservation. Candidates whose families own any of these will get disqualified for the reservation.
- The family’s annual income shall not exceed $8,00,000.
- The family’s yearly income shall not exceed $8,00,000.
- The family shall not have a residential flat with 1000 square feet.

The certificate will give NEET reservations to students in the general category too.
