For an aspiring medical student, securing admission in AIIMS is nothing but a short of a dream. Last year, nearly 3,74,520 candidates appeared for this coveted exam to compete for approximate 1200 seats. These numbers indicate that AIIMS entrance exam which is scheduled to be held on Sunday 25th & 26th of May is a fiercely competitive medical entrance test. Students who are gearing up for the upcoming exam may have also appeared for NEET 2019 earlier this month. We understand that taking big exams in quick succession of time is exhausting. There would be many students who would not even be over with the NEET hangover.
However, when you appear for the AIIMS exam, you need to approach it with a fresh perspective. Here are the following things to keep in mind before taking the big exam:
Brace yourself to take the Exam Online
Unlike NEET which was a pen and paper exam, the AIIMS entrance test is a computer-based test. There are many students who are not familiar with online mode and often get nervous. However, don’t worry, the examination process is very simple and easy. In fact, online examination is quite convenient in many ways. For example, as you progress through the exam you can see on the right side the total number of questions attempted and the total time remaining for the exam. This way, you can easily keep a track of the time spent on an individual question.
Don’t forget to save your Answers
Although you may have attempted Mock tests before and you are already familiar with the exam pattern, out of nervousness many students fail to save the answer. Be relaxed and confident and don’t be in a hurry to respond to the question. Read the question before answering. Unlike pen and paper exam, in the online medium, you have the freedom to change your answer. Therefore, don’t worry about making the wrong input as you can always change your answer. Having stated that, changing the answer too many times may lead losing out on valuable time. Be mindful of this when attempting the questions.
Strategize while attempting the Questions
When attempting the questions, make sure you follow a sound strategy so that you not only get maximum right answers but you are also able to attempt many questions. The question paper is divided into 4 section- Physics, Chemistry, Biology and General knowledge+ Reasoning. The Physics, Chemistry and Biology section carries 60 marks each, whereas the GK and reasoning section carries 20 marks. That makes a total of 2oo marks. Based on your preparation level, attempt that section in for which you are most confident. Physics question can be time taking since it will require lengthy calculation. Also, in the final merit list, your performance in the Biology section will be given maximum leverage. Keep these inputs in mind when attempting the exam.
Don’t Ignore the GK + Reasoning Section Completely
As a medical entrance aspirant, you are primarily focused on the hardcore disciplines of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Although the GK section may not be your priority, it is certainly scoring. Therefore, do take out time and to attempt the GK section. However, attempt the questions only if you are confident about the answer. Otherwise, that would call for negative marking.
Be mindful of Negative Marking
Just like any other medical entrance test, AIIMS is not immune from negative marking. While every correct answer will fetch you 1 mark, with every wrong answer, 1/3rd mark shall be deducted from the total score. Remember that in the final merit list, every mark shall count. Therefore, make you that you answer the questions carefully.
AIIMS 2019 is right around the corner. It is time to take things a little slow. Take proper rest and pay attention to your diet. Ensure that you get enough sleep and rest a day before the exam. Also, don’t feel stressed out. Only when your body and mind are at peace only then you will be able to attempt the examination efficiently.
