All You Need to Know About World Tourism Day 2022

    World Tourism Day 2022: History

World Tourism Day was established by the UN World Tourism Organization in September 1979, and its inaugural events took place on September 27. The Two UN Statutes were endorsed on September 27, 1970, which was chosen as the day to observe this holiday as it marked a significant turning point for tourism globally.

These Statutes encouraged the growth of tourism as a means of economic development and international cooperation. Promoting tourism is important for a nation’s economy as it helps in lowering unemployment rates by helping to create new jobs in the hospitality industry. Tourism generates billions of dollars annually, which is enormous, especially for developing nations. The UNWTO General Assembly decided to choose a host nation each year to serve as the Organization’s partner in commemorating World Tourism Day at its Twelfth Session in Istanbul, Turkey, in October 1997.

    World Tourism Day 2022: Theme

The official celebration of world tourism day will be held in Bali, Indonesia this year with the theme of ‘Rethinking Tourism’. This theme seems to be apt as the way and reasons for travel have changed drastically in the past few years for many people. Earlier travel was seen to be a luxury, but with the number of affordable travel packages, it is becoming one of the best options for people to relax. Especially after the pandemic, more people are preferring the idea of working remotely while exploring new countries and places.
