The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, recently made an announcement stating that the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) will no longer be organizing Class 10 (HSLC) board exams starting from the next academic year. According to the official statement, the madhyamik level exams will now be conducted as internal class examinations within the schools.
Under this new system, students will still be thoroughly evaluated and receive either a pass or fail grade, but the exams will be administered at the school level instead of being conducted by SEBA. However, it is important to note that the Assam Higher Secondary (HS) exams will continue to be conducted annually in the usual manner.
This decision to eliminate board exams for Class 10 has been made based on the belief of officials that these exams will no longer hold the same level of significance, aligning with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP). Furthermore, the Chief Minister also informed that the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) and SEBA will soon be merged, indicating a potential integration of these two educational bodies in the future.
