April 25th is officially recognized as World Penguin Day. This day recognizes one of the unique birds on the planet. It’s the day to celebrate these Charismatic flightless birds. Penguins’ distinct waddles, fluffy feathers, and stout body shapes make them one of the most objectively adorable animals on our planet. They are well-organized predators and are strong in the face of some of the most challenging climates on earth.
There are 17 species of penguins, and all their natural habitats are in the Southern hemisphere. One of the most well-known is the Emperor Penguin.
The National Penguin Day began in 1972 when Gerry Wallace wrote the event on his wife’s (Aleta’s) calendar in Alamogordo, California. April 25th is also the date that the Adelie penguins begin their migration northward toward Antarctica.
