In school, students usually only focus on regular weekly tests, half yearly exams & finals. The pattern and the type of questions remain the same and are not very challenging. It is important for students to be more aware of the different types of exams that they can appear & prepare for that will give a boost to their preparation for college entrances as well. Competitive exams are helpful as they give students a sense of competition and prepare them for different competitive exams they will appear for later in life. Here is a list of 5 competitive exams that you should consider appearing for in school:
- NTSE (National Talent Search Examination)
It is conducted for students of class X at a National level where students who are talented are recognized and honoured. They are offered scholarship for an entire academic year and also get cash prizes. It is a two tier exam.

This exam is conducted by the Government of India and has a five stage procedure:
Stage I – National Standard Examination (NSE)
Stage II – Indian National Olympiad
Stage III – Orientation cum Selection Camp (OCSC)
Stage IV – Pre-departure Training Camp (PDT)
Stage V – Participation in International Olympiad
The first stage (NSE) is entirely organized by Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT).
The last four stages are conducted by Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE)

This exam is conducted from Class II to Class XII. This exam is a great help for students as it has interesting logic based questions which challenge students and they also provide a detailed feedback and analysis of the student’s understanding of concepts etc.

This exam is conducted for students from class III to class X and assesses how well the students have understood the concepts that they have learnt in school. The idea of this exam is to break free from rote learning and actually give importance to the underlying meaning of the things students learn in school. These exams are based on ICSE, CBSE, IGCSE and other major state board’s curriculum.

It is a national level competitive exam that is conducted for students between class XI & XII. It is conducted by the Department of Science & Technology that strives to select talented students.
The qualified students then become eligible for five year integrated MS program at the institute for science education and research
