In order to score well in Class X Science board exam, it is important to strengthen your knowledge and understanding of all the three sections, namely Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Though the Class X Science syllabus is quite vast, a proper subject-wise study plan can help you prepare well.
Syllabus
The present syllabus of Class X Science board exam has been designed around five broad themes — Chemical Substances – Nature and Behaviour, World of Living, Natural Phenomena, Effects of Current and Natural Resources.
The questions asked can be classified as follows:
- Remembering: Memory-based questions including facts, recalling taught concepts etc.
- Understanding: Interpretation-based questions, organizing main ideas and descriptions, etc.
- Applying: Application-based questions and Problem-solving scenarios
- Analyzing & Evaluating: Analysis and Inference-based questions
- Creating: Compilation-based questions using given information
Class X Science Board Exam Pattern 2020
As we have seen in previous years’ papers, no Objective-type questions were asked in Board exams. However, as per the latest CBSE circular, Objective-type questions have now been included in the Board exam pattern. The updated paper pattern as per the CBSE Sample Paper is as follows:
Tips to Prepare for Physics Section
To effectively complete your preparation for Class X Science board exam, it is imperative to understand the subject-wise expectations of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. In this section, let’s try to decode the basics required for the preparation of Physics section in Class X Science board exam.
- Prioritize syllabus coverage according to the weightage of different chapters
Physics section carries a weightage of approximately 27 marks. There are a total of five chapters in Physics:
- Light: Reflection and Refraction
- Human Eye and Colourful World
- Electricity
- Magnetic Effects of Electric Current
- Sources of Energy
Out of these five, the first four chapters have maximum weightage according to the marking scheme provided by CBSE. Hence, it is essential to cover the high scoring chapters on priority basis.
- Practice perfectly
The key to success lies in thorough practice. Practice as many previous years’ papers as possible keeping in mind the current updated paper pattern. Solving previous years’ papers familiarizes you with the important topics and helps in identifying weak areas. Moreover, time bound practice of sample papers allows you to ultimately face the challenge on the D-day. In addition, solving one mock test every day improves speed and accuracy, boosts confidence and aids in better time management during the exam.
- Master the NCERT textbook
Since the syllabus of the CBSE Board exams is completely based on the NCERT textbooks, a thorough study of the NCERT is a must. Scrutinize every line of the book as it implies important information that can be asked in form of questions. Practice every question given in the textbook more than once, especially the solved examples and numericals.
- Nail the numericals
Numericals and derivations are important in Physics and you should concentrate more on practicing them. Focus on chapters like ‘Light: Reflection & Refraction’ & ‘Electricity’ from the numerical point of view. To attain a good score, it is essential to solve the numericals step-wise for an in-depth understanding of the concepts. In addition, preparing a list of formula from every chapter can help in quick recap.
- Efficient revision plan
Instead of trying to memorize complex problems, it is advisable to assimilate the basic concepts and theories which will help you understand the underlying principles and the connection between different topics. Make chapter-wise short notes of theoretical and conceptual topics and revise them. Emphasize on the use of SI units, symbols, nomenclature of physical quantities and formulations as per international standards. For ‘Long Answer’ questions, thoroughly practice the working and principle of topics like AC generator, DC motor, etc.
- Consistency is the key: Use flash cards to browse through important formulae before going to bed.
Make a list of all the important formulae & SI units, symbols & Nomenclature pertaining to all chapters and revise at frequent intervals. You can also make flash cards for the same and go through them every night before going to bed. This list will definitely help you even in your last-minute quick recap.
