It’s that time of the year again when every student is busy preparing for just a single thing- The Half Yearly Exams.

Half-yearly exams have quite a bit of stress and anxiety attached to them. Students pay utmost attention to the half-yearly exams to make sure their percentage for the annual exams remains good. If you are a student gearing up for the ‘TALK OF THE SEASON’, we have brought some tips and tricks for you to not lose out any marks in your half-yearly exams.

But before going any further, remember that it is just an exam. An exam can never make or break you. Even if you do not get good scores in half-yearly exams, you still have plenty of time to redeem yourself for the final exams.

Now coming back to the exam paraphernalia, generally, the half-yearly exams are only worth 20-30%, which basically does not occupy much of your overall marks and percentage.

Still, it is important to prepare well for this 20-30 percent share. Preparing well for half-yearly exams will give you an edge for the upcoming final term exams, such as:

    • You will be thoroughly prepared until the final exams.
    • Half preparations being done, you will have an ample amount of time for revision and preparation of other half of the syllabus.
    • You will get an idea of the exam pattern and difficulty level of the final examination.
    • You can identify your weak spots and convert them into your strengths for the final exams.

We understand that considering all the aspects you want to earn a very good score in the half-early exams, but you might not know-how. Students of classes 8th, 9th, 11th need to prepare keeping in mind their school examinations while students 10th and 12th must prepare from the perspective of board exams.

However, be it any class, the tips to score nothing less than 100% in half-yearly exams are the same. The tips are as follows:

    1. Always pay attention during the revision sessions in class: Take notes or make flow charts/brain maps that you could refer back to when you are self-studying. Make sure you review these notes twice a day, morning and night.
    1. Practice your weaker topics every day until the day of the test. This will let you master them before the test. Do all of the homework to the best of your ability. Try to answer every question right. If you missed a question, do it again. If you don’t understand why you got it wrong, ask the teacher or assign yourself extra problems.
    1. Follow these tips while studying:
    • Eat well before you start studying. This way hunger won’t distract you.
    • Have a look at the notes you took during the class. This will freshen up everything you studied in the class.
    • Reread all the topics that you think are your weakest areas.
    • Try to write a summary of everything you learn during self-study. This will help deepen your theoretical understanding.
    • Complete each homework problem like you never did it before.
    • You can make up some practice problems to see if you understand the concepts. If you do this, have someone else assess your answers.
    • You can also try group-study (only if you are among the ones who do not get distracted by someone around). This will give you some new ways to look at a problem you thought of being difficult.

    1. Never ever underestimate the importance of a sound sleep of at least 6 hours. Proper sleeping habit will help you in being refreshed and active.
    1. Make a proper schedule to study keeping in mind all of your other daily activities.
    1. Always stay calm during the exam preparation phase and also during the exam.
    1. Be collected, and read all questions patiently before answering in the exam. Reading the question paper by taking time will ease out a lot of stress or anxiety.
    1. Whatever it is, always give your 100%. Try not to skip questions. Try and answer every question even if you have only a few insights about the questions.

We’re done! Easy that was. Isn’t it? So, what you are supposed to do now is to follow above-mentioned tips to make sure you don’t lose out on marks this half-yearly exam season.
