The offline version of JEE Main 2017 concluded on Sunday, 2nd of April. Nearly 10 lakhs students across India appeared for the most awaited entrance exam of the year. The online examination will be conducted on 8th and 9th of April. Around
1,83,640 students are expected to appear for the online rendition of the exam.
There is a mixed response amongst students with respect to overall pattern of JEE Main 2017 question paper. While some students felt that the paper was difficult when compared to last year, others found it to be easy, but lengthy. Besides discussing the difficulty level of the questions for each section, through this write-up we will also be sharing the JEE Main 2017 answer key and its solution.
But before that here is a quick glance as to what the faculty members at Aakash Institute felt about this year’s JEE Main paper –
- Overall level of JEE Main 2017 was moderate
- A Mix blend of straight-forward and tricky questions
- In all the 3 subjects- Physics, Math & Chemistry, 5-6 questions were framed differently. However, there were no ambiguous questions.
Now, let’s turn our focus on subject-wise analysis –
Physics
Physics section was pretty much in line with the NCERT Class XI & XII syllabus. The overall questions were straight forward without any element of surprise. Here is the topic wise break- up of the questions –

- 15 Question were from Class XI Physics curriculum
- 15 Questions were from Class XII Physics curriculum
Mathematics
The overall pattern of the Math section was very interesting. 2-3 questions were quite lengthy. The level of the question was more in the line of JEE Advanced, which is why student just confined to NCERT syllabus and books may have found the Math section of the JEE 2017 question paper difficult. The questions were also quite concept based.

Chemistry
The chemistry section of the JEE Main 2017, Paper I was very balanced. Questions were equally distributed from all the 3 questions namely Physical, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry. However, no questions were asked from chapters like States of Matter & Chemistry in Everyday Life. Unlike last year, most questions in this year’s JEE paper was conceptual and less memory based. Concluding Thoughts
Based on the pattern and distribution of questions from each section of the syllabus, Aakash predicts the cut-off percentage to be somewhere between 95 to 105. The result of the examination shall be declared on 27th of April. The top 2,20,000 candidates from JEE Mains 2017 will be eligible to take JEE Advanced 2017, which is scheduled to be conducted on 21st of May 2017.
