Preparing for the FMGE exam requires intense and diligent effort, considering the rising complexity in recent years. To help you pass the exam, here are some pointers for your FMGE study plan:
- Prepare a Timetable: Creating a schedule is essential to balance your regular activities and study time. Divide the entire curriculum and allocate time accordingly. Stick to the schedule, and if some topics are still pending, dedicate the last few days to cover them. Make sure to include daily and weekly revision sessions.
- Understand the Syllabus: Focus your studies on what is required for the exam. Avoid wasting time on irrelevant material. Utilize previous year’s question papers, mock exams, or seek advice from those who have passed the exam to filter and prioritize the subjects/topics based on their importance and weightage.
- Focus on Your Weaker Sections: It’s common for candidates to concentrate on their strong points while neglecting complex and tedious subjects. However, this can significantly impact your overall performance. Identify your weak areas and spend adequate time improving them. Every mark is crucial, so avoid skipping topics, especially important topics, and repeatedly asked ones.
- Regular Revision: Regularly reviewing chapters or themes helps maintain the learned material over an extended period. Aim to review relevant themes once or twice daily. Allocate enough time in your study schedule to complete at least two cycles of revision.
- Practice MCQs: Precision and quickness are vital for FMGE success. Attempt a variety of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) for each topic to identify areas that require more focus. Reviewing previous years’ examination papers will also improve your efficiency and speed.
- Attempt Mock Tests: Mock examinations are valuable for assessing your level of preparation and study strategy. By attempting mock tests with time limits, you can identify areas for improvement. Evaluate your performance after completing the mock test series to receive real-time feedback on your test-taking ability under time constraints.
- Get your priorities right: Properly managing your time and avoiding burnout is crucial when preparing for FMGE in a short period. First thoroughly focus on subjects like Medicine, Surgery, OBG, Pediatrics, and PSM followed by ENT, Ophthalmology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Anatomy, Microbiology, Physiology, Forensic Medicine, and Pathology, as they are essential for the exam.
- Know What to Expect in the Exam: The FMGE exam pattern has changed, with a greater focus on testing clinical knowledge and skills. Expect clinical scenario questions and questions with a multidisciplinary approach. The options might be tricky, but remember that unlike NEET PG and INI-CET exams, there is no negative marking for incorrect answers. If your basics are right, and you have covered previous years’ questions (PYQs), meeting the qualifying criteria of getting 150 questions correct should be easy.
By following these pointers and creating a well-structured study plan, you can enhance your preparation for the FMGE exam and improve your chances of success. Good luck!
