The National Standard Examination in Junior Science (NSEJS) is conducted by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT). National Standard Examination (NSE) conducted by IAPT in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy, and Junior Science is the first stage for the international Olympiad. It aims to find and nurture young students who have high aptitude in Science. This IAPT-organized exam is the entry test for the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO). It is for students studying in Class VIII, IX & X (as per age criteria) and is conducted every year in the month of November.

NSEJS Exam 2023-2024 Stages
Stage 1:
Each year, over 80000 people from across the country take the exam, with the goal of qualifying for the merit list, from which approximately 300 students are chosen, based on merit. If the last rank is tied, all students with the same scores at this place qualify to take the second level or stage 2 test.
Stage 2:
This part of the test is more difficult, and qualifying applicants who go to the second stage must meet a cutoff of 50% of the maximum score, also known as the MAS (Minimum Admissible Score). The top 35 competitors in the Indian National Junior Science Olympiad (INJSO) are invited to a two-week programme. After that, a team of six people is chosen to represent India in the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO).

Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology are the disciplines included in the NSEJS tests, and students must study all courses up to and including 10th grade, as well as all classes below it.
