A landmark achievement was announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA) with a record-breaking 56 candidates, including two females, achieving a perfect 100 NTA score in the engineering entrance exam JEE-Main. This year saw the qualifying percentile for JEE (Advanced), the gateway to admission in the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), reach a five-year high.

In the January session of JEE (Main), 23 candidates secured a perfect NTA score, while the number rose to 33 in the April session. Among the 56 toppers, 40 hailed from the general category, 10 from the OBC category, and six from the gen-EWS category. However, no candidate from the SC and ST categories achieved a 100 NTA score this year.
Explaining the significance of NTA scores, a senior NTA official clarified that they are normalized scores across multiple session papers, reflecting the relative performance of all examinees in each session. These scores are converted into a scale ranging from 100 to 0 for each session.

Additionally, 39 candidates were debarred from taking JEE-Main for three years due to misconduct during the exam. Candidates’ ranks are determined based on the best of their two NTA scores, following the existing policy.
Telangana continued its dominance for the third consecutive year with 15 candidates in the top scorer list. Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh followed with seven candidates each achieving a 100 percentile, trailed by Delhi with six aspirants in the top scorer list.
Out of the 14.1 lakh candidates who appeared for the exam, nearly 96 percent took the test for admissions to engineering and architecture programs in centrally-funded technical institutions, as well as to qualify for JEE (Advanced). There are approximately 24,000 seats available across National Institutes of Technology (NITs).

The examination was conducted in 13 languages across 571 centers in 319 cities, including 22 centers outside India. The qualifying percentile for JEE (Advanced) across categories saw a significant increase this year.
Registration for JEE (Advanced) is set to commence from April 27, with around 17,385 undergraduate seats up for grabs across the IITs.
