    IIT Mandi History and Establishment

    IIT Mandi was founded as part of the Indian government’s initiative to expand the IIT system across the country. It was inaugurated on February 24, 2009, by then Minister of Human Resource Development, Shri Kapil Sibal. The first batch of students was admitted in July 2009, initially at a temporary campus in IIT Roorkee. In 2010, IIT Mandi shifted to its permanent campus in Kamand, a village located 15 kilometers from the town of Mandi.

    According to the 2023 placement report, the average package for IIT Mandi’s CSE graduates stood at INR 34.46 LPA. Companies participating in the placement drive offered roles such as Product Engineer, R&D Software Engineer, and Hardware Engineer. The majority of placements were in the Software and Data Science sector (59%), followed by the Engineering sector (16.2%). Prominent recruiters included Sprinklr, Amazon, Adobe, and Walmart.
