Tension has gripped students once again as the proverbial race has intensified further. A positive result – given the tireless effort and hard work –brought a brisk cheer, only to realign the brain to the overarching goal. Students who have cracked JEE Main are now diverting their entire strength towards the final frontier: JEE Advanced. But how can they increase the impact of their preparation, let us find out.
First and foremost, heartiest congratulation for your initial success. With the strongest of candidates remaining, it is a matter of pride that you are one amongst them.Still, in JEE Advanced you will experience increased competitiveness and hence it is imperative to adopt the best preparation strategy to ensure your success. With only one month remaining for the most pivotal day of your life, implement the below-mentioned points to safeguard your triumph within this timeframe.
Changing the basic approach:
NCERT-based preparationis a game-changer in the JEE Main. The same could not be said for JEE Advanced. NCERT books might be necessary, but insufficient for your JEE Advanced exam.Considering that you have extensively prepared through NCERT books in the prelim exam, now you must practise through advanced learning books.
Mathematics:
- Make sure you can solve problems from the NCERT class XI and class XII textbooks.
- For best concepts, use IIT Mathematics for JEE (Main and Advanced)by M.L. Khanna
- For the most abundant supply of difficult questions: New Pattern IITJEE Mathematics by Dr. S.K. Goyal
- Plane Trigonometryand Elements of Coordinate Geometry by S.L. Loney
Physics:
- Concepts of Physics, Volumes 1 and 2, by H.C. Verma
- Problems in General Physics,by I.E. Irodov
- Fundamentals of Physics, by Halliday, Resnick, and Walker
- Understanding Physics for JEE Main and Advanced (series), by D.C. Pandey
Chemistry:
- Study the NCERT chemistry textbooks for classes XI and XII.
- Organic Chemistry,by Morrison and Boyd
- Numerical Chemistry for JEE Main and Advanced, by P. Bahadur
- Concise Inorganic Chemistry,by J.D. Lee
- Modern Approach to Chemical Calculations,by R.C. Mukherjee
- Physical Chemistry, by P. Bahadur.
- organic, physical, and inorganic chemistry books by O.P. Tandon
Also, consult with your mentors on the relevant subject as they might suggest books suitable for your ongoing strategy and preparation.
While studying, it is essential to understand the concepts as well as the approach used in each question.Merely parroting the approach will be quite detrimental, especially if the question gets slightly altered in the exam.Further, do not entirely neglect NCERT course books in your JEE Advance preparation. Learn and revise topics that have appeared in previous years’ question papers.
Sound preparation habits:
Firstly, and most importantly, create a timeline for subject-wise revision after assessing your ongoing preparation. Do not include new topics if you cannot spare one week exclusively for revision. Devise a timetable and update it weekly as peryour timeline. Also, do not make your preparation cumbersome by not giving anyroom to your day-to-day activities. Stay physically active and try to engage in performance boosting activitiessuch as meditation, yoga, etc. It is essential to stay healthy during this critical period as even a single day’s loss can cause massive repercussions in the end-result.
Use audio and visual learning aids to memorise and revise functions, formulas, and concepts. Also, learn smart techniques to increase your speed in the examination.Analyse your strengths and weaknesses during practice and create a strategy to maximise your performance. Above all, stay confident. You have been successful in cracking JEE Main and it is essential to trust your capabilities for JEE Advanced. Have a relaxed mindset and do not invite any needless worry.Always try to maximise your effort but not at the cost of making your preparation hectic.
Good Revision Strategy:
Practise a minimum of 50 questions within 50 minutes from question banks of each and every subject. Create an examinationhall-like atmosphere and solve mock question papersas well as previous years’ question papers. Encounter the flaws in your exam approach, such as calculation errors, wrong interpretation ofthe question, etc., and try to eliminate them over the course of one month.
Allocate adequate time to each and every subject while attempting a mock paper and set aside your answer sheet after the designated exam time. Solve the remaining questions in a separate answer sheet. Crosscheck your answers with the answer key. Mark all the questions where you made a mistake and try to get down to the root of the problem (low conceptual understanding about the topic, etc.). Also, note down the frequently recurring topics from previous years’ question paper and strengthen your grasp on those topics.
Perfect Execution:
With admission to an esteemed institution just one step away and given all the hard work that you’ve put in, stay positive to taste success in the examination. Take adequate sleep before examinations and do not burden yourself with needless fears and anxieties. A day before the examination, keep all your stationaries and admit card in one place and make sure that you reach the examination centre well in advance. Locate your examination hall to preventany time loss later. Visit the washroom in advance and avoid doing so during the examination. A single visit during the exam can result in a minimum of 5 minutes loss, which is enough to solve more than 5 questions.
The above mentioned strategy will serve as the precursor for your inevitable success. Simply implement this in your preparation and you will be right on track for your success in JEE Advanced examination.
