CBSE announced JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) in place of AIEEE and IIT – JEE in 2012. JEE is conducted in two parts, JEE Main & JEE Advanced.
You can take admission in Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) & Indian School of Mines Dhanbad (to be converted into IIT) through JEE Advanced. JEE Main is for admission in IIITs (Indian Institute of Information Technology), NITs (National Institutes of Technology), CFTIs (Central Funded Technical Institute) & IIEST Shibpur (dual degree program).
If you are an aspiring Engineer, given below are a few things you must know about JEE Advanced 2016!
1.Two papers: JEE (Advanced) 2016 has two papers, Paper – 1 & Paper – 2. To qualify for the exam, it is compulsory for the candidates to appear for both the papers.
2.Option for language: JEE (Advanced) 2016 aspirants have an option to choose between English or Hindi as a medium for the question paper.
3.Two attempts: If you’re appearing for JEE (Advanced) 2016, you are given two chances and that too, consecutively. Hence, either it should be the candidate’s first attempt or a second consecutive attempt.
4.Age limit: To appear for the JEE (Advanced) 2016 exam, the candidate should be born on or after October 1, 1981 if he/she is belonging to the GEN or OBC – NCL category. If the candidate belongs to SC, ST or PwD category, he/she should be born on or after October 1, 1986.
5.Defence Service (DS):Not all defence service personnel’s children are eligible for DS category seats. These seats can be availed by the children of those parents who were killed or disabled permanently in action during war or peacetime operations while in defence/paramilitary services.
6.Class 12 performance: To secure admission in IITs & ISM, the candidates should either be in category wise top 20 percentile in class 12 or have scored minimum 75% aggregate marks for general & OBC-NCL categories. SC, ST & PwD candidates need minimum of 70% aggregate marks.
7.Foreign Nationals: Foreign nationals are also eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2016 including PIO and OCI card holders. Under various categories, foreign nationals are outside the scope of reservation of seats.
