CBSE, Central Board of Secondary Education, has released the Class 12 board exam results on the official website of the Board. The students can visit the official website of the Board – cbseresults.nic.in – to check and download their CBSE 12th Result.

The CBSE board conducted the CBSE 12th Term-1 exam based on Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), and Term-2 is a Subjective-Based Questions type. But the weightage of both Terms was equal.

Since the educational session 2009-10, CBSE has accepted the grading system to reward students for their outcome of the whole year of hard work. In this system, students receive grades from A to E in response to their performance during the whole session. Grade points are also provided on the mark sheets with their grade. And these grade points are interconvertible with percentages by using a converting formula.

Students must be aware of this formula because they need to fill percentages in the competitive exam forms or during admission to higher studies institutes.

What are GPA and CGPA in CBSE Class 12 Results?

GPA stands for Grade Point Average. It is the average of the accumulated final grades earned by the students over time. It is calculated by dividing the sum of all accumulated final grades by the total number of accumulated final grades.

CGPA is the shortened form of Cumulative Grade Point Average. It is an assessment tool to assess your pedagogical performance. It is used mainly to calculate the overall performance of the students.

C1 Next 1/8th of the passed candidates.

CBSE Class 12 Results Grading System

The appraisal standards for the Class 12 students are slightly different from the Class 10. For Class 12, the theory marks of each subject will be evaluated using the half-yearly or pre-board exams scheduled by the schools. Class 12 half-yearly or pre-board exams will comprise 40% of the evaluation criteria. While 30% will be on Class 10 board exams, the other 30% will be on Class 11. In this way, CBSE designed a 30:30:40 scheme for Class 12 students.

CBSE Class 12 Results: How to Calculate Class 12 Board Marks into Percentage?

Calculating the CBSE Class 12 board exam percentage using CGPA scores is based on a simple formula. You can calculate your Class 12 board percentage by directly putting values in the formula. Online CGPA to percentage calculators are available to calculate the percentages.

    Percentage = Add all five grade points5 x 9.5% = CGPA x 9.5%

With the help of the above formula, students can directly calculate their percentages with the help of grade points. Let’s comprehend this formula with the help of an example:

    Subject Grade Points (GP)
    Subject 1 9
    Subject 2 7
    Subject 3 8.2
    Subject 4 7.9
    Subject 5 9.5
    Total 41.6
    CGPA 41.6/5 = 8.32

Hence, the CGPA of the given record is 8.32.

    Therefore, the percentage will be

    Percentage = 8.32 x 9.5% = 79.04%

Similarly, students can calculate the percentage of their grade scores.

How to Increase Score to Get a Better Grade?

No student wants to get a low score. If you are a bright student, you take all those positive and hard-working routes that lead you towards the top of the mountain. Here are some tips that help you in scoring better to get an excellent grade:

    • Try to do better than your previous record. Keep challenging yourself from time to time.
    • A positive attitude always helps at crucial times in life. So, maintain your positive attitude, and you will be able to defeat many difficult problems easily.

FAQs about CBSE Class 12 Results

What are the notable points of the grading system for the CBSE Class 12 students?

The notable points provided by CBSE for Class 12 students related to the grading system are as follows:

The board will make slight differences in the percentage of candidates to adjust ties.
In case of an allegiance, all the students getting equal scores will get similar grades.
If the number of sophomores must be split into two chunks at a score point, the smaller chunk will go with the larger.
The board will only use the method of grading in subjects where the number of passed candidates is more than 500.
The grading would be approved on the pattern of grading and distribution in other similar subjects, where the total number of candidates passing the subject is less than 500.
For Class 12, in subjects with practical/ project work or exams, students have to obtain a lowest of 33% marks in practical/ project and theory exams to qualify for it.

What are the advantages of the grading system?

The grading system has numerous merits. Some of them are given below:

Knowledge of Weak Points and Strong Points: Grades help the students identify their weaknesses. And this way, they can search for ways to convert their weaknesses into strengths. Also, they can polish their strengths to the next level.
Low Score Pressure: The grading system underneath the pressure of getting high marks for the students. As the actual marks obtained are not reported on their scorecards, they don’t have to shoot for good marks. Their main target is to get good grades.
The Grading Pattern: Grades are not given according to academics only. Achievements, assignments, attendance, etc., are also considered while grading a student. Hence, they can also perform a little in all such modules to get good grades.
Studying Becomes Simple: Grading makes the study easier. Those who only wish to get passing marks can easily achieve their target. Whereas the learners to achieve high grades can break their studies into different segments and perform well.
Grouping the Students: Teachers can easily categorise the students into different groups with the grading system. In this way, teachers can pay more attention to average and below-average students. And make the concepts clear to them according to their understanding levels.
Parent’s Attention: As the parents are aware of their child's grades, this will also help them know about their child’s capabilities. Hence, they can provide better resources to their child for better performance.

What are the passing criteria for Class 12 students?

For passing Class 12, every student has to gain 33% marks in theory and practical exams separately. It is the minimum passing criteria CBSE has finalised. The total marks distribution (for Term 1 and Term 2) for Science, Commerce, and Arts streams are given below:

CBSE marks distribution for Class 12 Science Stream Students:

Subject Maximum Marks in Theory Exam Maximum Marks in Practicals or Projects
    Physics 70 30
    Biology 70 30
    Chemistry 70 30
    English (Core) 80 20
    Mathematics 80 20

CBSE marks distribution for Class 12 Commerce Stream Students:

Subject Maximum Marks in Theory Exam Maximum Marks in Practicals or Projects
    Accounts 70 30
    Mathematics 70 30
    Business Studies 70 30
    Economics 80 20

CBSE marks distribution for Class 12 Arts Stream Students:

Subject Maximum Marks in Theory Exam Maximum Marks in Practicals or Projects
    History 80 20
    Political Science 80 20
    Psychology 70 30
    Sociology 80 20

What are the disadvantages of the grading system?

Despite so many merits, the grading system also has some drawbacks. These are given below:

Dwindle in Performance: One of the worst results of the grading system is the decrease in learners' performance. Sophomores know that they can easily achieve earmarked grades. Hence, they don’t put much effort into their studies. For instance, if the student’s target is the ‘A’ grade, he knows that 90 marks will also put him under the ‘A’ grade. Therefore, he doesn’t try to get 100 marks.
Precision in Result: The grading system malfunctioned in showing the reliable performance of the students. Instead of informing about students' actual ability, the grading system only aims toward the grade achieved by them.
Lack of Competitive Environment: Because of the grading system, students only focus on scoring passing marks. They do not try to score the highest marks now. It resulted in a lack of competitive environment among the learners. As a result, they become lazy and drop their intellectual level.
Feeling Disheartened: The grading system discourages brilliant students. The range of grade ‘A’ is 90-100%. As a result, either the student scores 90% or 95%, both score grade ‘A.’ Due to this, the brighter student loses their confidence.
Increase in Inactivity: Students know that projects, attendance, and assignments are counted in the grades. Hence, they performed well in these activities and got grades. And they become lazy and inactive in exams.

How is the CBSE 12th percentage calculated?

To determine the percentage, add all of the marks earned in all subjects and divide the total number of subjects (5) by 100. (or total marks of 5 subjects). Divide this value by 100 to get your CBSE percentage marks
