Getting admission to any of the prestigious IITs is the dream of all engineering aspirants. From seeking the right guidance to backing their preparation by joining and engineering coaching, they do it all for their dream to study at IIT. However, there are times when students opt for the wrong study methods or devise a strategy that isn’t working well in their favor. As a result, they dampen their progress, accumulate stress, and ultimately affect their score.

To help you score well in IIT JEE 2023, we at Aakash Institute have listed down 10 of the most common mistakes that you should avoid during your preparation. Take a look!

    1. Refrain from Mugging Up the Concepts

Many students commit this cardinal sin while preparing for IIT JEE. If you are finding any concept hard to understand, take help from the faculty at the engineering coaching, strengthen your basics and aim at understanding it clearly. Yes, mugging up sure seems like the most obvious choice. Unfortunately, it will not help in the long run.

    2. Don’t Take Class XI Syllabus Lightly

Since the syllabus of IIT JEE is similar to class 11th, taking it lightly and skipping chapters may cost you big. Remember, a majority of questions asked are from the class 11th syllabus, especially from the later half of the Class 11th textbook. So, no matter how vast the syllabus may seem to you, skipping any part of it is not advisable.

    3. Don’t Refer to Too Many Books

Yes, we agree that just one book is not enough when preparing for IIT JEE. However, we also agree that piling up too many books as well is not a good idea. Referring to too many books will only add to the confusion and make it difficult for you to complete the syllabus on time. So, if you are aiming to crack JEE 2023, rely on NCERT books and the study material provided by engineering coaching.

    4. Never Compare Your Progress

Engineering aspirants often have a habit of comparing their progress with others. You should understand that everyone has a different learning pace and they cannot be on an equal level when it comes to preparing for competitive exams. If you spend your precious time comparing yourself with others, you’ll never get anything accomplished. This habit will only make it difficult for you to concentrate better on your studies.

    5. Don’t Become a Bookworm

We understand that JEE preparation calls for immense hard work, but it should never come at the cost of dulling your mind and body. It is advisable to take out time for activities you like doing and recreational breaks. You can watch TV, play your favourite video game, hang out with friends or just relax. However, be sure not to overdo the fun part.

    6. Don’t Ignore the Numerical Questions

Many students have a habit of marking the chapter as finished after they are done reading it twice or thrice. While theory plays a significant role in determining your score, not solving numerical questions will do no good. No matter how well you have understood the chapter, do not declare it as finished unless you have answered all the numerical questions. To clear JEE 2023 you should develop the skill and ability to solve numerical questions as well.

    7. Never Ignore Your Health

During the preparation phase, don’t burden yourself so much with studies that the body starts taking a toll on your health. Improper meal patterns might make you fall sick and you may end up losing valuable time that could have been utilized for preparing better. We at Aakash Institute, urge every student to take healthy and timely meals to keep giving the body the energy that it requires.

    8. Don’t Be Overconfident

There is a thin line that divides confidence and overconfidence. You should revise the chapters and concepts from time to time and never underestimate your competition. Even if you have a 100% strike rate in tests and mock exams, don’t become overconfident. It is hard to predict how the questions will be set and the performance in mock tests doesn’t guarantee a good score in the exam as well.

    9. Don’t Keep Revision for the Last Moment

Many students have a habit of first finishing the entire syllabus and then starting with the revision. Remember, revision should neither be the last day hustle nor kept for the last month. Revising every day gives you a strong hold on the concepts and helps you learn and remember better.

    10. Don’t Give up Before You Try

Last but not the least, many students give up only after finding that the syllabus is vast and tough. If you want to study in any of the IITs, you must be all geared up to take on the challenges to succeed. A great combination of time, patience, and hard work will surely help you crack JEE 2023. All the best!
