The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially declared the results and ranks for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Undergraduate 2024. Since 2019, the NTA has been conducting NEET (UG) with the approval of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Education, following directives from the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.
NEET (UG): A Uniform Entrance Exam for Medical Education
Under Section 14 of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, NEET (UG) is mandated as a common and uniform entrance test for undergraduate medical education across all medical institutions. Similarly, as per Section 14 of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Act, 2020, NEET (UG) is required for admission to undergraduate courses in disciplines such as BAMS, BUMS, and BSMS within the Indian System of Medicine. Additionally, NEET (UG) is applicable for admission to BHMS courses under the National Commission for Homeopathy.

In addition to the results declaration, NTA conducted a thorough post-exam data analysis to identify cases of Unfair Means (UFM). Actions taken against UFM cases, including cancellation of candidature and debarment from future examinations, are strictly in line with existing rules.
Record-Breaking Registrations
NEET (UG) 2024 witnessed a record-high number of registrations, with over 24 lakh students—the highest ever. Among them, over 10 lakh were male students, and over 13 lakh were female students. This surge was facilitated by selecting several smaller cities as exam centers, particularly in the Northeast, hilly, and tribal areas.
Information on 15% All India Quota Seats
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Government of India, will conduct counseling for 15% All India Quota seats. This includes seats in Deemed Universities, Central Universities, ESIC and AFMC, BHU, and AMU. Candidates can visit mcc.nic.in for further information. Counseling will continue until all seats are filled.
State Quota Seats
For State quota and other seats under state jurisdiction, candidates should apply to their respective domicile states. A merit list based on All India Rank will be prepared by the concerned State Counseling Authorities. This applies to both state-run and private medical colleges. Candidates are advised to stay in touch with their respective counseling authorities and institutions for detailed information.
Tie-Breaking Criteria
In cases where two or more candidates obtain equal marks or percentile scores in NEET (UG) 2024, the inter-se-merit will be determined as follows:
- Higher marks/percentile score in Biology (Botany & Zoology)
- Higher marks/percentile score in Chemistry
- Higher marks/percentile score in Physics
- Lower proportion of attempted incorrect answers to correct answers in all subjects
- Lower proportion of attempted incorrect answers to correct answers in Biology
- Lower proportion of attempted incorrect answers to correct answers in Chemistry
- Lower proportion of attempted incorrect answers to correct answers in Physics
- Application number in ascending order
Qualifying Criteria and Counseling Process
The NEET (UG) 2024 results have been declared based on the qualifying criteria set by the National Medical Commission and the Dental Council of India. Qualified candidates must complete further formalities with the respective Counseling Authorities, such as DGHS and the Medical Education Directorates of States, for admission to MBBS/BDS courses. Detailed counseling schedules will be available on the websites of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the respective state medical education directorates.
Transparency in the Evaluation Process
NTA has implemented a transparent system by hosting scanned copies of candidates’ OMR sheets, their responses, answer keys, and booklet codes on the website. Candidates were allowed to challenge the responses from May 29, 2024, to June 1, 2024. After verification by subject experts, the final answer keys were published, and the results were declared based on these final keys.
