    History and Prestige

    Established in 1960 as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC), NIT Karnataka was one of the earliest Regional Engineering Colleges set up under the second Five Year Plan of India. It was later upgraded to National Institute of Technology status in 2002 and is now an Institute of National Importance.     Eligibility Criteria for Postgraduate Programs at NIT Surathkal

    B.Tech Eligibility

    To apply for the B.Tech programs at NIT Karnataka, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

    Academic Requirements:

    • Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects.
    • A minimum of 75% marks in the 10+2 examination is required (65% for SC/ST candidates). Alternatively, candidates must be in the top 20 percentile in their respective board examinations.

    JEE Main:

    • Candidates must have a valid JEE Main score. Admission to the B.Tech programs is based on the All India Rank (AIR) secured in JEE Main.
    • Candidates must also satisfy the eligibility criteria set by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) for participation in the counseling process.

    Age Limit:

    • There is no specific age limit for appearing in JEE Main; however, candidates should have completed their 12th standard within the last three years.

    M.Tech Eligibility

    For admission to the M.Tech programs at NIT Karnataka, candidates must meet the following criteria:

    Academic Requirements:

    • Candidates should have a B.E./B.Tech degree in the relevant discipline with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST candidates).
    • For certain specializations, a master’s degree in Science (M.Sc.) or equivalent in the relevant discipline may also be acceptable.

    GATE Eligibility

    • Admission to M.Tech programs is primarily based on the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score. Candidates must have a valid GATE score in the relevant discipline.

    MBA Eligibility

    To apply for the MBA program at NIT Karnataka, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

    Academic Requirements:

    • Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST candidates).

    CAT/MAT/CMAT Eligibility

    • Candidates must have a valid score in any of the management entrance exams, such as CAT, MAT, or CMAT. The selection process will consider these scores along with other criteria like group discussions and personal interviews.

    MCA Eligibility

    For admission to the MCA program at NIT Karnataka, candidates must meet the following criteria:

    Academic Requirements:

    • Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree with Mathematics as a compulsory subject at either 10+2 level or at the graduate level.
    • A minimum of 60% marks in the qualifying degree is required (55% for SC/ST candidates).

    NIMCET Eligibility 

    • Admission to the MCA program is through the NIT MCA Common Entrance Test (NIMCET). Candidates must have a valid NIMCET score.

    Ph.D. Eligibility

    For admission to the Ph.D. programs at NIT Karnataka, candidates must meet the following criteria:

    Academic Requirements:

    • Candidates should have a master’s degree in the relevant field with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST candidates).
    • Candidates with a B.E./B.Tech degree with a valid GATE score and exceptional academic performance may also be considered for direct admission to the Ph.D. program.

    Entrance Test:

    • Admission to Ph.D. programs involves a written test and an interview conducted by the respective departments. Candidates with a valid GATE/NET score may be exempted from the written test.

    NIT Surathkal Selection Process

    B.Tech Selection Process

    The selection process for the B.Tech programs at NIT Karnataka is as follows:

    1. JEE Main Examination:
    • Candidates must appear for the JEE Main examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The exam is held twice a year, and the best score out of the two attempts is considered for ranking.
    1. All India Rank (AIR):
    • Based on the JEE Main score, candidates are assigned an All India Rank (AIR), which is used for seat allocation.
    1. JoSAA Counseling:
