In a landmark move, the UGC has granted students in India the freedom to pursue two-degree programs concurrently after completing Class 12. In response to this initiative, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have begun offering BTech-MTech dual-degree programs since the previous year. To embark on these BTech dual-degree endeavors at IITs, aspirants must successfully clear both the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main 2024) and JEE Advanced 2024, and actively engage in the JoSAA counseling process.
According to the admission guidelines, the top 2,50,000 rank holders of JEE Main 2024 will qualify for JEE Advanced 2024. All 23 IITs are poised to admit students into various programs such as BTech, integrated MTech, integrated MSc, and BTech-MTech dual degree programs in engineering, sciences, or architecture, contingent upon their JEE Advanced scores and meeting the eligibility criteria. Some IITs offer students enrolled in the 4-year bachelor’s program the option to pursue BTech (Honors) and/or BTech with Minors. Dual-degree students may also elect to pursue a Minor. Additionally, certain IITs provide BTech students the opportunity to pursue an Interdisciplinary Dual Degree, involving a Bachelor’s in the parent Department and a Master’s in another Department,” as stated by IIT Madras.

In 2022, the University Grants Commission (UGC) endorsed the dua
l-degree guidelines to foster greater flexibility in higher education. Alongside permitting students to undertake two courses simultaneously, the statutory body also introduced provisions for multiple-entry and multiple exit, aligning with the principles outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020.
In the latest developments, the National Testing Agency (NTA) is anticipated to announce the results of JEE Main 2024 session 1 for the 55,493 students who appeared in the BArch and BPlanning examinations. Concurrently, the registration window for JEE Mains 2024 session 2 remains active, with the deadline for submission of application forms set for March 2.
