What is JEE Advanced?
Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is the national-level entrance test for admission to India’s premier Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). For 2026, the responsibility of conducting the examination lies with IIT Roorkee.
The JEE exam has two stages, JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Only candidates who qualify JEE Main 2026 and meet the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced can register for the exam. The eligibility is limited to the top 2,50,000 successful candidates from the B.Tech/BE paper (Paper I) of JEE (Main) 2026. A candidate will be allowed to take JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
JEE Advanced 2026 comprises two compulsory parts, Paper 1 and Paper 2. Candidates appearing for the exam need to attempt both papers to be eligible for the JEE Advanced 2026 merit list. The test will be held in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.

Actions to Take When the JEE Advanced 2026 Schedule is Out
Once the exam schedule is released, it’s time to review your actions and plans. A structured and focused approach can help remain calm, consistent and confident. Here are certain areas to focus on:
Review the syllabus: While you must already be adhering to the syllabus, this time, check with the perspective of strong and weak subjects and topics. Also, revisit the number of covered and uncovered topics to accommodate them in the remaining time. Modify the plan as per your specific requirements (if needed).
Regular Practice: If you have been focusing mostly on theory with minimal practice of questions, now is the time to shift your area of focus. Practising the papers and mock tests helps to build the mindset of paper solving. It improves speed and accuracy and helps the brain adapt to face the exam.
Track the errors: After solving the problems, note down your errors. Write the topic, reason for mistakes and other relevant details. Avoid repeating them by finding appropriate measures.
JEE Advanced Preparation Tips
Tackling JEE Advanced successfully is possible with the right approach. Here are a few tips to incorporate into your study schedule:
- Understanding basics: This is the non-negotiable part of preparation for JEE Advanced 2026. It helps approach tricky and new problems by applying the logic as per your knowledge. Also, prepare for both Mains and Advanced simultaneously to minimise the hassle and effort.
- Taking regular tests: This is to accustom yourself to the exam environment. Use it to develop time management skills, handle exam pressure, and ensure minimal errors during the exam. Use official mock tests and previous year papers to enhance analytical skills.
- Develop skills: Develop the ability to explain the topic to someone. Be capable of depicting the question in a visual format (wherever applicable). Practice concept recognition while skimming through the questions and enhance the question selection ability. You must know which question to attempt immediately and which one to skip.
- Ensuring revision: This is another highly important part of the preparation journey. The ability to forget the topic, content and concepts requires external efforts to become exam-ready. Hence, create a personalised schedule for timely revision of every topic.
